In the cursed town of Angola, shadows have a memory, and blood is a death sentence. CJ thought his family was his anchor, but when his vampire siblings Alaric and Skye drag him into a brutal ancestral ritual, he becomes the catalyst for a nightmare. Forced to consume his father’s blood, CJ is no longer the man he once was. He is something ancient, something cold, and something that thrives in the unseasonal blizzard now choking the streets. While Rhiane fights to reach him, she finds herself caught in a web of mirror-ice clones and manipulated memories. But the true danger isn't just the vampires—it’s Riley. As a violent metamorphosis takes hold, Riley loses his humanity to a bear-sized, primal beast that knows no loyalty. With friends turned into monsters and the past revealed as a lie, the survivors must face a devastating truth: to save the town of Hellbowned, they might have to kill the ones they love most. The howling has begun, and no one escapes the rage unscathed. From Jestdor Dziamski comes a visceral tale of betrayal and supernatural horror where the only thing thicker than blood is the darkness it attracts.

Chapter 1

Riley fired off a round from his shotgun into a werewolf that stood next to his sister and said, “Rhi, come on we have to hurry and get to him before he decides to come up with yet another stupid idea again.”

Without missing a beat Rhiane turned to face her brother with her bow in hand. She quickly pulled back the string and let fly two arrows that parted, hitting a pair of wolves on either side of Riley.

Rhiane smiled happily with herself and said, “I think you forgot who you were talking about for a second there. No matter what he always has a stupid idea in that head of his.”

Riley looked at his sister wide-eyed because of what she did and said barely audible to her, “Yeah, I know but we still got to get there before he can pull off whatever he's thinking of.”

Looking down the street in the direction that they had to go, Rhiane saw dozens of werewolves and shadow casters between them and there.

She looked at Riley and said, “Sorry to say but that's never going to happen.”

“Well see if you can at least clear a path…” Riley said before being thrown into a parked car from a shadow caster that appeared behind him.

He got up from the ground and finished saying, “So, we can get as close as possible to where he is.”

“I'll see what I can do.” Rhiane said disappearing into the night using her vampiric speed to her advantage.

Rhiane started to focus all she could into making a giant fireball to throw into the heart of the group in front of her to clear a path so that she and Riley could get to the bridge to help CJ.

When it was big enough she let go, the impact of the blast through all of the werewolves that stood on the streets into the nearby buildings and the shadow casters just seemed to disappear out of sight.

CJ fought back against every werewolf that came close enough to him but it was a losing battle for there were just too many of them attacking him at once.

“Riley, I’ve fought them off for as long as I could. I got nothing left.” CJ said over his radio.

“Hold on,” Riley said. "We’re almost there.”

CJ backed up toward the edge of the bridge. He called back to Riley, “I have an idea to get me out of this.”

“Why do I have a really bad feeling about this?” Riley said, shaking his head. “What are you going to do this time?”

CJ grabbed a hold of a werewolf that was close to him, hooked his arm around its neck, hopped up on to the edge of the bridge and said, “Grow a set of wings.”

Riley looked up at the bridge only a few hundred yards aways in disbelief of what he heard and said, “CJ don’t do it.”

CJ looked down the street to see Riley and Rhiane running up at the base of the bridge. He then looked down to the ground far below the bridge and back toward Riley and Rhiane again with a smile on his face going from ear to ear.

Both Riley and Rhiane ran as fast as they could to get there but all of the werewolves on the bridge made it impossible.

Riley looked toward where CJ was standing and saw that they were too late. He had already jumped and was quickly falling to the ground below.

CJ fell toward the ground still holding the werewolf in his grasp and yelled at the top of his lungs, “HOLY SHIT! GRAVITY WORKS!”

It was at that moment that Rhiane awoke with a blood curdling scream.

She sat up in her bed and put her hand on top of the loose fitting tank top she wore that was soaked in sweat and clung to her pale white skin to hold her chest. She blinked her eyes and slowly looked around the room to regain her barings.

Riley suddenly barged into her room, knocking the door off of its hinges to make sure his sister was alright.

He squinted his eyes in the darkness of the room but he was able to make out the fact that his sister sat there on her bed holding her chest while crying.

“They took him, Riley.” She said between hard labored breaths. “They took him and we did nothing.”

The outside of the house was dark and quiet. The moon hung low in the sky almost full, giving a slight orange hue to the darkness above.Bellona saw that long shadows were now cast from the trees that lay across the side of the house long forgotten in the middle of the woods. She also saw a bright light peer out through a single window of the house.S…
