A simple bike ride in suburban Denver takes a strange turn when thirteen-year-old best friends Daniel and Alex get caught in a sudden rainstorm. They run into an old cabin to get out of the rain and discover a hidden cellar, an old travel journal filled with strange notes, and a mysterious stone archway with a strange power. Before they can get back home, the gateway suddenly sends them into 1876, when Colorado is still a territory, and Denver is a busy frontier town. With dead cell phones and old-fashioned clothes, the boys think they are having the adventure of a lifetime. But after they accidentally advise a local teenager, they realize they may have changed an important part of Colorado's history. Then they learn the gateway's most important rule: if you change the past, you might not be able to go home. With the help of a mysterious guardian who protects the gateway, Daniel and Alex must fix what they changed before the future they know disappears.
