Go to the Outline tab (Story Bible) and delete the chapter there — the chapter content will be removed as well. Deleting from the outline syncs to the chapter content.

The easiest workflow is to make edits directly in AIWriteBook's writing editor and then regenerate the files. If edits were already made externally in Word, start a new book and import the edited .docx as a draft — the platform parses it into chapters without modifying the text. From there, add a cover on the Metadata step and generate the files in the Format step.

Go to the Outline tab (Story Bible) and click the "+" button to add a new chapter at the end or at the bottom.

There is no option to change all chapter content with a single prompt. For big changes, use "Edit All with AI" on the Outline page to update all chapter outlines at once, then regenerate each chapter individually. For smaller corrections, edit the text directly in each chapter through the writing editor.

Audio only exists once you render it, so editing your chapter text does not change audio that was already produced — the old file stays exactly as it was until you render again. To pick up your corrections, open the book in the Audiobook Studio and re-render that chapter: the narration is always rebuilt from the chapter exactly as it reads at that moment, so there is nothing to refresh or re-sync by hand. If you only changed one line, you do not need to redo the whole chapter — re-record that single paragraph on its own. It slots back into place, the rest of the chapter is untouched, and you do not pay again for audio that was already fine.

Characters can be added or edited at any time — the outline doesn't lock you in. After updating characters, either regenerate the outline from scratch using the dedicated button on the Outline page, or click "Edit All with AI" and instruct it to integrate the new character into the existing outline.

Open the book and go to the Publish step. Tap Download next to the PDF and the file is saved to your device. On the free plan the standard PDF carries a watermark; the print-ready PDF comes from the Format step on Pro, Ultra and AppSumo.

If chapter titles or subtitles did not load correctly during import, they need to be updated manually in the Outline tab (Story Bible) by editing each chapter's title directly.

No. AIWriteBook exports your book in formats fully compatible with Amazon KDP (EPUB and Print PDF), but you need to upload the exported file to your KDP account and go through Amazon's publishing process yourself. The EPUB export includes a navigable (clickable) table of contents that works on Kindle devices. Note on ISBNs: AIWriteBook doesn't issue ISBNs, so there won't be one inside your book. A Kindle ebook doesn't need one (Amazon assigns an ASIN automatically); for a paperback, KDP provides a free ISBN during setup, or you can buy your own. You also set up your tax and bank details directly in your KDP account settings — that's where Amazon pays your royalties; AIWriteBook isn't involved in your sales or payouts.

The cover text (title, subtitle, author name) is drawn by the AI into the cover image itself, so there is no text-overlay editor and no separate text layer you can retype or reposition. You describe what you want in the cover generation prompt, and each attempt is a new image generation that costs credits; the AI picks colors that read well against the background, but exact wording of unusual names or pen names is not guaranteed, and "Edit with AI" is another full generation rather than a text correction. For precise control over placement, colors, or extra visuals like a logo, download the cover, edit it in any image editor (Canva, Preview, Photoshop), then use "Upload Your Own" in the Cover section of the Metadata step - uploading a finished cover uses no credits. The Author Name that goes into your exported EPUB/PDF/DOCX metadata is set separately on the Basics step.

AIWriteBook doesn't print or sell physical copies. Generate the print-ready PDF and wrap cover in the Format step, download them from Publish, then upload them to a print-on-demand service like Amazon KDP. Once published there, you can order printed copies for yourself and make it available for others to purchase.

This is a save timing issue. After generating or editing a chapter, the save indicator at the top of the editor must show "Saved" before navigating away. Auto-save triggers a few seconds after typing stops — leaving the screen too quickly can cause content not to persist. Wait for the "Saved" status before moving to another chapter or page.

Generating many outline chapters at once can exceed the AI's context limits. Instead of generating 20 chapters simultaneously, generate them one by one — set the total chapter count, then generate each chapter individually (55, then 56, then 57, etc.). For very long books, consider splitting into a book series (AIWriteBook supports this) — it improves generation reliability and chapter-to-chapter consistency.

Two workarounds: (1) Import a draft — when creating a new book, upload a file containing the book description and character details, and select to import only "Book Details" and "Characters." The AI will extract characters from the actual text. (2) Edit characters with AI — on the Characters step, click "Edit with AI" and type instructions like "Remove all current characters. Generate only the following characters and nothing else:" followed by the character descriptions. Both approaches cost no extra credits for character creation/editing.

Yes, if you import the book as a draft — start a new book, import the manuscript, and go through the writing steps. The style and grammar check step will be available once chapters are in place.

When creating a new book, first select that it is part of a series and import your previous books. On the next step, select that you also have a draft and upload the current book's manuscript. This gives the AI your series context (characters, plot, style) while working from your existing draft.

This is expected — "Regenerate" creates the chapter from scratch based on the story outline, not from the text in the editor. To modify existing chapter content, use the Chat Edit panel on the side of the editor (it changes only the parts you describe while preserving the rest). To regenerate with new material, update the chapter's outline first in the Outline/Story Bible step, then regenerate.

Yes. Go to the Writing step for that chapter, make edits or regenerate it, then re-generate the files in the Format step. The new export will include the updated chapter — everything stays synced.

Use the "Additional Instructions To AI" field available for each chapter. Write whatever you'd like the AI to follow when generating that chapter, and paste your own content directly in there. The AI will use your instructions and content as guidance during generation.

At the top of the Outline page, there's a chapter count setting. Increase the number there first, then scroll to the bottom and click the button to generate the remaining chapter outlines. "Edit All with AI" only modifies existing chapter outlines — it cannot add, remove, or create new chapters.

The AI Chat Editor is designed for targeted edits to existing chapter content, not wholesale rewrites. When asked to replace everything at once, it can't match changes to existing paragraphs and fails repeatedly. For turning a script or outline into prose: (1) click "Regenerate" on the chapter and paste the script into the "Additional Instructions To AI" field — the AI will use it as the basis for generating the chapter, or (2) paste the script directly into the editor and use the chat to refine it in small pieces — one scene or moment at a time.

There is no download/upload feature for outlines. Use "Edit with AI" (pencil icon) on individual chapters or "Edit All with AI" to reshape the entire outline with a single prompt. A button at the bottom of the outline page also lets you add multiple chapters at once using AI.

Use the Additional Instructions field when generating a chapter. Add instructions like "Do not use the following words: [list]" and the AI will follow them during generation.

It depends on the format. The EPUB and DOCX exports DO embed your cover: whatever cover is set on the Metadata step is written into the file, so your e-reader and Amazon KDP will show it. The print-ready PDF is interior-only by design and contains no cover, because KDP and IngramSpark require the print cover (front, spine and back as one wrap) to be uploaded as a separate file during their own publishing process. So: if your EPUB or DOCX has no cover, the cause is that no cover is set on the Metadata step yet - go there, set the cover in the required aspect ratio (1:1.6 for KDP e-book) and export again. If you are exporting the print PDF, the missing cover is expected, and you upload the cover image to KDP separately. That separate wrap file is generated for you: the Format step's Cover area builds the front-spine-back cover PDF with the spine from your page count, so you upload the interior PDF and the wrap PDF as the two files KDP and IngramSpark ask for.

Direct Google Docs upload is not supported. Export the document from Google Docs as a .docx file (File → Download → Microsoft Word) and then import that into AIWriteBook. Import takes Word .docx files only. For a .doc, PDF, RTF, ODT or text file, the app shows how to convert it to .docx first.

Yes, there is no limit on the number of books you can work on simultaneously. All books are visible on the dashboard at https://aiwritebook.com/app — click on any book from the dashboard to open it and continue where you left off.

"Publish" in AIWriteBook does not send your book anywhere public. The cover, title, author name, categories, and blurb are set on the Metadata step. The Publish step builds your shareable author page (and optional NanoReads opt-in). After that, the Format step generates your book as EPUB, print-ready PDF and DOCX, and the Publish step lets you download them — you then upload those files yourself to Amazon KDP or another platform to actually list your book for sale.

Yes. Write your book in one language first (we recommend English), then use the Translate Book tool at https://aiwritebook.com/app/tool/translate-book/ — pick a target language and AIWriteBook produces a fully editable new book in that language. The original is never modified. You can translate the same source into multiple target languages, and each one becomes its own book you can edit, re-cover, and export independently. Cost is based on chapter count: 15 credits per chapter plus 30 credits for the cover and metadata translation, per target language. Visual picture books can be translated too: 15 credits per page plus the same 30, and text lettered onto an illustration is re-lettered in the target language while keeping the artwork.

There is no built-in splitter tool. Two options: (1) Export the finished book and split the file yourself in an external editor before uploading to KDP, or (2) create separate books on AIWriteBook from the start — one per part — and write or import the chapters for each part into its own book. Each book then gets its own cover, metadata, and export independently.

Only in the same browser tab. The curved Undo arrow at the far left of the chapter editor toolbar steps back through your changes, and one click after a regeneration restores the previous text. That history lives only in the open tab: once you reload, close the tab or switch chapters, the previous version is gone, because regenerating saves the new text over the old one and AIWriteBook does not keep chapter version history. Copy a chapter's text somewhere safe before regenerating if you may want it back.

Import takes one Word .docx file; for other formats the app asks you to convert to .docx first. Formatting and embedded images are always kept. Books uploaded through the "previous books in the series" option when creating a new book are stored only as series context for the current book — they don't appear as separate entries on the dashboard. To have each prior book visible and trackable on its own, start a new book, choose "Import manuscript", and upload each previous book individually. Importing only Details and Characters is free, so no chapters are regenerated; the manuscript itself is parsed into chapters as-is. That message comes from the NanoReads opt-in card on the Publish page (the cross-publishing option that lists your book on the AIWriteBook reader site). It only accepts genres from our built-in genre list — if your genres were created by AI generation or import, they may be free-form labels (like 'Epic Romantasy' or 'Monster Romance') that don't match the built-in list, so the check fails. To clear it: open the book's first wizard step (Basics — Title/Description), pick at least one built-in Genre from the dropdown (Fantasy, Romance, Erotica, Sci-Fi, Mystery, etc.) and at least one Subgenre from the dropdown that appears, then save. Return to Publish — the warning is gone. The custom genres you typed for KDP metadata are not changed. If you don't need NanoReads cross-publishing, you can ignore the card entirely and go straight to the Format and Publish steps — generating EPUB/PDF/DOCX for KDP works regardless of this check.

The Genre picker on the Basics step has two rules: (1) maximum of 4 primary genres — the 5th selection is silently rejected; (2) Erotica is mutually exclusive with Children's and Young Adult — selecting Children's or Young Adult automatically removes Erotica, and vice versa, to prevent explicit content under a kids/teen label. Other genres combine freely up to the 4-genre cap, and subgenres are filtered to those that belong to the selected primary genres.

This applies to fiction and non-fiction chapter books. Visual/picture books use a different editor and have no image sidebar. Open the book and go to the Writing step for a chapter. In the chapter editor open the image sidebar (image icon on the side panel). Write a prompt describing the image, pick a style (realistic, oil painting, watercolor, anime, children's book, fantasy, sci-fi, noir, historical, romantic, horror, comic book, ink illustration, pencil drawing) and an aspect ratio (1:1, 16:9, 9:16, 4:3, 3:4), then click "Generate Image". The image is inserted directly into the chapter; user can resize it, align it (left/center/right), regenerate it, or upload their own instead. Each generation costs credits and runs separately from chapter writing.

Per-chapter word count is shown live in the writing editor's toolbar at the top of each chapter (e.g., '1,234 words | 5,678 chars'). There is no single 'whole-manuscript word count' view inside the app. For the book total, either sum the per-chapter counts from the editor, or download the book as DOCX from the Publish step and use Word/Google Docs' word count.

Subscribers can't be added manually from inside the app — there is no add-email field on the Author Page. Subscribers are captured automatically when readers sign up through the published Author Page: when a book is published there with an 'email-gated chapter count' set, readers must enter their email to unlock the gated free chapters, and those emails land on the subscriber list at https://aiwritebook.com/app/author (where they can be searched, copied, exported to CSV, or removed). The headline, bio, photo, external links, and "by …" tag on your public author page (e.g. /author/your-slug/) come from your profile, not from any book metadata — edit them on the Author dashboard at /app/author (Profile card: Name, Surname, Bio, Photo, Links). The URL slug is also set there. The per-book "Author Name" field (Basics step or Publish step of each book) only affects that book's cover text rendering, EPUB/PDF/DOCX export metadata, and KDP metadata — it does not appear on the public author landing page. The Author Name field is editable at any time; it is only locked once that specific book has been published to NanoReads.

The AI Chat Editor (the chat panel beside the writing editor, used for targeted line edits that preserve the author's voice) costs 5 credits per instruction sent, regardless of how many changes that single pass makes. There is no flat per-chapter charge — a chapter cleanup is usually a few passes, so budget roughly 5 credits each. The spelling/grammar/style checker does not cost credits to run. For scale, the Plus plan's 1,000 monthly credits is about 200 chat-edit passes.

Yes. Pick the higher tier on the Pricing page (or via Profile -> "Manage your subscription") and confirm the change — you never end up holding two subscriptions, and you never cancel anything to do it. An upgrade takes effect immediately: the higher plan and its credit allowance are active right away, and you are invoiced a prorated charge covering the rest of the current billing period, so the time you already paid for on the lower plan is credited against the new charge and you only pay the difference. Regenerate Chapter rebuilds the chapter from scratch using the outline and surrounding book context, not the text in the editor. In first-person books or books with a very distinctive opening hook, the AI can latch onto that earlier line and reproduce it near-verbatim at the top of the regenerated chapter. To recover: click the undo arrow at the top-left of the chapter editor to restore the version from before the regenerate (do this before regenerating again or leaving the page). To avoid it: for wording tweaks use the AI Chat Editor instead of Regenerate (it edits only the parts you describe and preserves the rest); if you do want a full regenerate, add a line in the Additional Instructions To AI field like "Write a fresh opening — do not reuse or echo the chapter 1 opening line."

There is no required number of images — AIWriteBook sets no minimum or maximum, so it is entirely up to the author and the book. As a guideline, add an image only where a visual genuinely makes something clearer (especially for technical/how-to books: equipment, setup, steps, results), so roughly one well-chosen image per chapter or per key concept is usually plenty. On cost: each AI-generated image costs 15 credits. In fiction and non-fiction chapter books, authors can also upload their own photos or diagrams for free from the same image panel in the chapter editor, which is a good way to illustrate many chapters without spending credits (and for technical manuals, real photos are often clearer than AI-generated ones). Images are added per chapter in the Writing step via the image sidebar. Visual/picture books work differently: their page illustrations are always AI-generated, and uploading your own image onto a page is not available.

Yes. Each page has one illustration setting (a full image, a light background, or none) and a text toggle. When the page has an illustration and text, the words are lettered directly onto the picture; when there is no illustration, the text is shown on its own. You can edit the wording, choose its position and font, move and resize text, crop or regenerate the image, and re-render the page. You cannot proceed to publish until every page has the content its settings require.

When you start a visual book you first generate an art style and a set of reference characters. Every page illustration is generated from those references, so each character keeps the same look, outfit, and colors throughout the book. Keep each page's "Referenced elements" filled in on the Storyboard step, because that is what gets sent with the illustration. If a character comes out wrong, use "Generate new" rather than "Edit image": Generate new sends the art style and the page's references again, while Edit image sends only the current picture and your instruction, with no references attached.

On the Publish step you can download a standard PDF (free with a watermark, or clean on the Pro plan (Pro/Ultra, AppSumo Tier 3 and above, or a paying account created before 15 July 2026)) or a print-ready PDF with an optional 0.125 inch bleed for print-on-demand services. The export includes a cover, title page, copyright, dedication, table of contents, and back matter, and uses the trim size you selected.

Yes. Use the visual book studio (a separate flow from the text-based fiction and non-fiction books). It supports children's picture books, coloring books, activity and workbooks, manga and comics, cookbooks, illustrated nonfiction, and art collections. You choose a trim size and page layout, generate an art style and reference characters, and the AI builds a page-by-page storyboard with illustrations and text.

The confirmation field is case-sensitive and must contain the word exactly as lowercase "delete" — no capital letter, no spaces. On phones the keyboard auto-capitalizes the first letter to "Delete", which does not match, so the button never activates. Fix: open Profile (top right) → Delete Account, clear the field, and type delete in all lowercase (if the keyboard keeps capitalizing, type a couple letters then go back and lowercase the first one). Once it reads exactly delete, the red button turns active. Account deletion is permanent — books, data, and credits are all removed and cannot be recovered.

There is no built-in merge feature, and in most cases the recommendation is to keep them as two separate books — there is no limit on how many books an account can have, and each keeps its own editor, cover, and export. Options: (1) If the two books are parts of a series, start a new book and, when prompted that it is a continuation of a series, upload both as the previous books in the series so the AI carries their characters/plot/style forward. (2) To truly combine them into one single book, do it outside the platform: download each as DOCX from the Publish step, paste one after the other into a single file in Word or Google Docs, then start a new book and use Import manuscript to upload the combined .docx — it is parsed into chapters as-is and can be edited, re-covered, and exported.

No content is lost. Chapter generation streams the text live into the editor as the server writes it, but the full chapter is saved on the server independently of that live stream. A brief connection drop between the browser and our backend (often shown as a "Failed to fetch" error) can interrupt the on-screen stream mid-sentence and make Regenerate appear to fail, while the backend has already completed and saved the full chapter. Fix: reload the writing page, or reopen the book from the dashboard — the complete chapter loads from the saved version. The user should reload to check the saved version before regenerating. Credits are only consumed for a completed chapter, so a truncated on-screen render does not mean a wasted charge. To steer length, add a note like "Write a full ~5,000-word chapter" in the Additional Instructions To AI field before generating.

When checkout reaches our payment processor but does not complete, it is almost always the card issuer/bank declining the charge, not an issue on AIWriteBook’s side or with the card number. Fixes, all on the user side: (1) When clicking Subscribe, complete any bank verification (3-D Secure) pop-up that appears — closing it cancels the charge. Export only includes chapters that have saved text in the writing editor. If a chapter (for example the Introduction or chapter 1) shows up in the outline but has no content written in the editor, the export has nothing to include for it, so it is omitted while the chapters that do have text still export. Fix: open the book, go to the Writing step for that chapter, paste or write the text, wait until the editor shows "Saved" at the top, then re-export. The chapter will then appear in the PDF/EPUB/DOCX. You can re-export as many times as needed and it always reflects the latest saved text.

No external account is needed or connectable. The AI is built into AIWriteBook and already included in your plan, so there is nothing to set up or link. ChatGPT/OpenAI is not a selectable writing engine — the platform runs on its own models (Gemini for standard generation, and Claude for chapter writing when citations are enabled on non-fiction). A separate ChatGPT subscription is not required to use any feature. Optionally, Ultra and AppSumo Tier 3+ users can connect their own OpenRouter key (BYOK) to run actions for 1 credit and write chapters with any of the hundreds of models on OpenRouter.

This is a false positive from the image generators automated safety filter, not a judgment that the content is inappropriate. It can misfire on otherwise wholesome scenes (e.g. a sleeping child in a bedroom combined with specific clothing/footwear). Important: the Render button uses the illustration prompt that was generated back in the Storyboard step, so rewording the brief on the Writing page does NOT change what is sent to the image generator (Render reads illustration_prompt, which only the Storyboard step writes). The working fix: go back to the Storyboard step, open that page, and either reword the illustration brief to avoid the trigger (e.g. focus on the object/scene and drop the person framing) OR click Regenerate on that page and add an instruction like "show only the object, no person in the scene" — this produces a fresh illustration prompt. Then return to Writing and click Render again. The story text readers see is unchanged; this only affects how the picture is generated.

Visual Books are not fully free — the free part is a taster so you can try the feature before committing. On your first visual book, the first 5 world/character images and the first 2 page renders are free. Beyond that free allowance, Visual Books are a Pro-plan feature (Pro or Ultra, or AppSumo Tier 3 and above; and any paying account created before 15 July 2026 keeps access on any plan). On an eligible plan the extra generations are credit-based: each page render is 20 credits, regenerating or editing an image is 15, each extra world image is 20, the storyboard is 3 credits per page, and page text is 10. A 30-page book adds up fast (after the 2 free pages, the remaining 28 renders alone are 560 credits). Every 'Generate' button shows its credit cost before you click, and the live balance is in the Profile dropdown (top right).

Subscription credits are granted fresh at the start of each billing cycle and do not roll over. Any unused balance from the previous month expires when the next month's credits are added. This monthly reset is documented in the FAQ on the pricing page. The current balance is always available to use within the active cycle.

Go to the Metadata step of the book (the step right before "Publish" in the row of steps along the top — not the "Publish" step itself). Scroll to the Cover section and click "Upload Your Own" (it sits alongside AI generation and the cover builder), then upload your image file. If prompted, crop/adjust it to the required aspect ratio. Once the cover is saved, the Format and Publish steps unlock automatically — generate the files in Format and download them from Publish.

On the pricing page (https://aiwritebook.com/pricing) there are three tabs at the top: Monthly, Yearly, and Credits. It opens on Yearly by default, which is why only the annual price shows at first. Click the Monthly tab and the plan cards switch to the monthly rate (Plus $20/mo, Pro $50/mo, Ultra $200/mo), then click the plan you want to subscribe month by month with no annual commitment.

There is no itemized line-by-line credit-spend history in the app. The Profile dropdown in the top-right shows the current credit balance and renewal date, but not a log of each individual charge. To understand where credits go, the main per-action costs are: outline generation 3 credits/chapter, full-chapter import 10 credits/chapter, chapter generation 15 credits with Gemini (Grok 20, Claude/cited chapter 30), AI cover generation and cover variations, in-chapter image generation 15, audiobook generation, and book-series processing. The "?" icon next to the credits box on the pricing page opens the full per-action breakdown.

This usually happens with older-format .doc files (Word 97–2003), especially large ones (~4.5 MB or more), which our importer cannot process and which fail silently. Fix: open the file in Word or Google Docs and re-save it as the modern .docx format, then upload that. .docx is parsed directly in the browser with no size limit and works for both regular manuscript import and series-continuation upload. If it still will not import, save the manuscript as a plain .txt file and upload that as a fallback.

AIWriteBook doesn't issue ISBNs, so you won't find one inside your book — that's expected. For a Kindle ebook you don't need one: Amazon assigns its own identifier (an ASIN) automatically during setup. For a paperback, Amazon KDP gives you a free ISBN during the publishing flow, or you can buy your own (Bowker in the US, or your country's official agency) if you'd rather own it. To publish, export your book (EPUB for Kindle, Print PDF for paperback) from the Format and Publish steps and upload it to your own KDP account.

We do use Claude and Gemini. Gemini handles standard chapter generation and research; Claude is used for chapter writing when citations are enabled or for stronger narrative quality. Both are built into the platform, so no external ChatGPT/Claude/Gemini subscription is needed. We never claim to avoid these models — the homepage phrase "sounds like you, not generic AI" refers to avoiding generic, robotic AI output, not to the underlying models. Prose quality is controlled by training the AI on your writing style, the per-chapter Additional Instructions To AI field, and the AI Chat Editor for line edits. Optionally, Ultra and AppSumo Tier 3+ users can connect their own OpenRouter key (BYOK) to run actions for 1 credit and write chapters with any of the hundreds of models on OpenRouter. The current versions are Claude Sonnet 5, Gemini 3.8 Flash and Grok 4.6, and you can choose the model per chapter generation and inside the regenerate dialog. We do not withhold version numbers.

Subscription credits refresh monthly on your billing anchor day (the day-of-month you subscribed), including on yearly plans which drop their monthly allotment each month rather than all at once. The refresh runs automatically in the early hours (UTC), so if you check earlier in the day the new credits may not have landed yet. Confirm the current balance and renewal date under Profile (top right). Unused credits from the previous month do not roll over.

The free plan is not a paid subscription — using it never requires a card and never results in a charge. If the account has no active paid plan (not premium, no plan), there is no subscription to cancel and no charge will ever be made. Reassure the user nothing is owed now or in the future. The free plan simply has usage limits (e.g. one free AI-written chapter; further generation, clean exports, and covers need credits), which is what users often run into and mistake for a trial.

The subscription is tied to a different account — the one used to sign up or pay. Sign in with that account, go to Profile in the top right, and manage/cancel the subscription there. Alternatively, cancel directly from the purchase receipt email (App Store, Google Play, or billing email), which contains a manage/cancel link. After cancelling, an expiration email confirms no further charges.

There is no fixed page count — it depends on the per-chapter word counts and the trim size chosen at export. As a rough guide, a 6x9" paperback is about 280-320 words per page. The exact, final page count is calculated when you generate the files in the Format step and download the Print-ready PDF from Publish for your chosen trim size.

Use the browser's zoom: Cmd + (Mac) or Ctrl + (Windows) to zoom in, and Cmd/Ctrl 0 to reset. This only enlarges what is shown on screen and does not change the book's actual text or formatting.

Go to the Metadata step, scroll to the Cover section, and click Regenerate first to clear the current cover. Then choose Upload Your Own (or generate a new one) to set the replacement. Save, then continue to Export.

It depends on what you purchased. One-time credit packs (e.g. the 2,000-credit pack) are not recurring — we do not store a card and you are never billed automatically, so there is nothing to manage and no "manage subscription" option appears in the profile. The next purchase simply uses whatever card is entered fresh at checkout. For recurring subscriptions, billing is handled by our payment provider — RevenueCat for older accounts, Stripe for newer ones (check the user's "Billing provider" line in their account context and only mention that one). Profile → Manage subscription opens that provider's billing portal, where the card can be updated; the same portal is also linked from the purchase receipt email. If the management options are missing entirely, the account is likely a one-time purchaser, not a subscriber.

AIWriteBook is a web app — it runs entirely in your browser at https://aiwritebook.com with nothing to download or install. It works on desktop, tablet, and phone, and books are saved to your account so you can switch devices. The separate reader product, NanoReads, has mobile apps, but the book-writing platform itself is web-based.

Translating a book creates a brand-new, separate book in the target language on your dashboard (e.g. an English copy alongside the original). The original book is left untouched in its original language. To export the translated version or see its public author page, open the new translated book from your dashboard and use the Format and Publish steps there. A translation of an unlocked book inherits the unlock at no cost. Exporting or sharing the original book will always show the original language.

The public author page only shows books that have been fully published, not drafts. If the URL points to a book that is still a draft (for example one brought in via draft import), the page shows the paused message. Use the page of a fully-published (non-draft) book instead. Books created through the full from-scratch flow are non-draft and appear publicly.

When generation reaches our server, starts, then dies after ~30 seconds with a network error, the issue is almost always the streaming connection between the browser and our server being cut on the user side — the backend returns 200 and begins streaming the chapter, but something interrupts the long-lived connection. Backend is healthy and generation works for others. Troubleshooting, in order: (1) switch networks (a phone hotspot is the fastest test — isolates Wi-Fi/router/ISP dropping the connection); (2) disable browser extensions/VPN/antivirus web protection, or test in an Incognito window (extensions off) — ad blockers, privacy extensions, VPNs, and antivirus web shields commonly cut streaming connections; (3) try a different browser (Edge/Firefox). Failed/interrupted generations are intermittent, so a retry often succeeds, and an errored generation does not meaningfully drain credits.

Manage Subscription opens the billing portal in a NEW browser tab, so a pop-up blocker can silently block it and make it look like nothing happens. Fix: allow pop-ups for aiwritebook.com, then click Profile → Manage Subscription again. Alternatively, open the “Manage your subscription” link in the payment-confirmation/receipt email from the original purchase — it opens the same portal. To change plans you do not need to cancel first: pick the plan you want on the Pricing page. Upgrading to a more expensive plan applies immediately with a prorated charge; downgrading to a cheaper plan (or switching from a longer billing interval to a shorter one, e.g. yearly to monthly) is scheduled for the end of the period you have already paid for, so you keep your current plan and its benefits until then. Keep at least one plan active to retain premium access (credits alone do not unlock it), and already-granted credits remain on the account.

Yes, in two places. In the Style step you can upload your own reference image instead of generating one, and in the World/Characters step you can upload your own character images. Those uploads become the references that guide every page generated afterward, keeping your art style and characters consistent. You can also upload your own cover on the Metadata step. Those are the only places a visual book accepts your own image file: you cannot place your own picture onto an individual page, and the page canvas has no upload button, no drag-and-drop and no paste. Page illustrations are always generated by the AI. To change one, open the Pages step, click directly on the picture so that it is selected, then use "Edit image" (keeps the current picture and only adjusts it), "Generate new", or "Crop" in the panel on the right. If the page still shows "Not rendered yet", press "Render page" first. The per-page text is editable (AI can rewrite or fix rhyme/meter). First visual book is free.

Books are not stored on your computer — they live in your AIWriteBook account in the cloud and auto-save as you write, so an internet drop cannot delete them. Log in at https://aiwritebook.com/app and open the book from your dashboard; it loads your latest saved version (everything saved before the editor last showed 'Saved').

No manual refresh is needed. After the payment method is updated (or the bank approves the previously blocked charge), the payment processor retries the charge automatically and the subscription activates as soon as it succeeds — usually within minutes to a few hours. The user can confirm it worked by checking the Profile dropdown (top right), which shows the active plan, credit balance, and next charge date.

Mobile browsers (Chrome on Android, Safari on iOS) unload background tabs whenever the user switches apps or the screen locks. When they return, the page reloads and signs back in, which interrupts any generation that was running and feels like being "thrown out." Nothing is actually deleted — every generated chapter is saved to the book as soon as it finishes, so check the dashboard before regenerating anything (regenerating the same content again costs credits twice). For long writing or generation sessions, recommend a desktop/laptop browser and keeping the tab in the foreground on mobile.

Yes. From the dashboard click "Create New Book" and choose "Import Book" to upload the manuscript — it is parsed into chapters following the author's own structure without changing the text. After import, restructure via the Outline tab (reorder, edit, merge chapters; "Edit All with AI" for bigger structural changes, then regenerate affected chapters). Then use the Translate Book tool, select the imported book and target language, and it creates a complete translated copy. Costs: importing chapter text is 5 credits per chapter, plus 3 credits per chapter if you also import the outline (1 credit per chapter with your own OpenRouter key). If you have not purchased anything, the first import is free once per book type. Translation is 15 credits per chapter plus a 30-credit base (e.g. 525 credits for a 33-chapter book).

Each subscription tier includes a monthly credit allowance: Plus includes 1,000 credits per month, Pro includes 5,000, and Ultra includes 25,000. Prose quality means how the writing itself reads: sentence rhythm and variety, word choice, natural dialogue, and few repetitive AI-style phrases or cliches. Higher prose quality means less editing for the text to feel human-written. Current guidance: Sonnet gives the most polished, atmospheric prose (good default for fiction like suspense or romance). Gemini is also high quality and works great for long books. Grok is the best choice when the book contains explicit content, which other models tend to soften. You can switch models per chapter, so a practical approach is to generate the same chapter with two models and keep the voice you prefer.

Yes. Page numbers are added automatically to the Print-Ready PDF: numbering starts at 1 on the first chapter page and continues through the back matter, while front matter pages (title, copyright, dedication, table of contents) are left unnumbered, following standard print-book convention. The table of contents also lists the page number next to each chapter, with dotted leaders, and those numbers match the page numbers printed on the chapter pages. No setting is required — just generate the files in the Format step.

Your subscription is active; the prompt is about credits, the in-app currency that powers each generation, not your subscription. Each plan includes a monthly credit allowance (Plus 1,000, Pro 5,000, Ultra 25,000) that refreshes automatically each month — on an annual plan the credits arrive in monthly installments, not all at once. Writing a full chapter costs 15 credits with the standard Gemini model (20 with Grok, 30 with Claude), a chapter outline 3, a cover 30. No. That notice is informational, not a blocker. As KDP's own message says ('We've embedded them for you'), KDP automatically embeds the fonts when it processes your print PDF, so the paperback prints correctly. Click through the previewer to confirm the pages look right, then click Approve. If a specific page looks wrong, adjust the text in the Outline (Story Bible) tab and re-generate the print PDF in the Format step.

There is a one-step delete for the whole book. On the dashboard (My Books, https://aiwritebook.com/app), every book cover card has a trash icon in its top-right corner — it is always visible, on phones and tablets as well as on desktop, with a touch target sized for tapping. Tap or click it and confirm "Delete": the book and all of its chapters are removed permanently and cannot be restored. This is separate from deleting a single chapter (done via the Outline/Story Bible tab) and from deleting the whole account (Profile -> Delete Account).

This happens when the purchase was made on a temporary guest/anonymous account (used before signing up with an email and password), so the subscription and credits live on that guest account, not on the email account the user later logs in with. The fix is to move the subscription and credits onto the correct email account on our side; after that the user logs in again with their email and password and sees the active plan with the full credit balance under Profile (top right).

Yes, the chapters are generated by AI, so AI-detection tools may flag them. Those detectors are unreliable and regularly flag human-written text too, so none of them is definitive. AIWriteBook is built to reduce the generic-AI feel: it can learn and write in your own voice, you steer each chapter with the 'Additional Instructions To AI' field, and the AI Chat Editor lets you line-edit for tone. The more you shape the text in your voice, the less it reads as generic AI. We do not claim the output is 'undetectable' — but you own 100% of the result and can edit it freely.

Lock the voice once per pen name and reuse it. (1) On the book's Details step, write a clear author-writing-style description for that pen name (tone, pacing, sentence style, vocabulary) and reuse the exact same text for every book under that pen name. (2) Best of all, give the AI a sample: start a book with 'Import manuscript' and import a chapter or two written in that pen name's voice using the 'Chapters' option — the AI learns and mirrors that style; keep one reference sample per pen name and reuse it for each new book in that genre. (3) Reinforce per chapter with the 'Additional Instructions To AI' field. Model choice also affects prose: Sonnet is the most polished/atmospheric, Gemini is great for long books, Grok is best for explicit content, and you can switch model per chapter.

No subscription is unlimited. Each plan includes a fixed monthly credit allotment that refills automatically on your monthly billing date (Plus = 1,000 credits/month, Pro = 5,000 credits/month). When you run out before the refill date, you can wait for the next monthly top-up (no extra charge), or buy a one-time credit top-up (250 credits for $20, or 2,000 credits for $50) on the pricing page without changing your subscription. Tips to stretch credits: generating an outline is cheap (3 credits/chapter), and editing/polishing existing text costs far less than generating full chapters from scratch.

It depends on how the page text is set in the Storyboard. Text placed "over" the image is baked into the illustration at render time — to change it, go back to the Storyboard step, update the text for that page, and re-render. Text placed "beside" the image (or on a text-only page) is a real editable text layer you can update directly in the Writing step.

Go back to the Storyboard step and restructure or remove the page there before re-rendering.

There is no separate file for the outline or character list, and the DOCX does not contain them — it holds the chapter titles and the chapter text only. To print or save them, open the Outline step (or the Characters step), select the text on screen, copy it, and paste it into Word or Google Docs. From there you can format and print it however you like.

Add it directly in the writing editor, not through the AI chat. The AI chat only edits the written text of the chapter, so it can't act on image placement requests. Click just below (or above) the image to place your cursor on a new line, type the caption or credit text, and use the toolbar to center or style it. Entering the caption as normal text (rather than positioning it via AI) keeps it consistent across browsers.

Technically yes — you can import a Word .docx file as a draft (an .epub or .pdf has to be converted to .docx first, and the app shows how), and the import extracts details, characters and outline, while importing full chapters lets the tool learn that writing style and provide the 'story so far' as context. However, this works best with your own manuscripts: generating and especially publishing new work based on another living author's copyrighted novels (e.g. on KDP) raises copyright issues, so keep that in mind for anything you intend to distribute.

Our refund policy, set out in the Terms & Conditions, covers only the original purchase — the 7-day money-back guarantee applies to the first/original payment, and renewal charges are not covered by it. The chat assistant states the policy but does not decide any individual request: it cannot approve or refuse a refund, and must not tell the user their request is granted or denied. If someone asks about a renewal charge, explain the policy, then hand the conversation to a human — press the button below the assistant's response, or write to support@aiwritebook.com — and a person reviews it and answers within 24 hours. To avoid being charged again at the same rate, downgrade or cancel before the next renewal date via Profile -> "Manage your subscription" on the website; the new rate takes effect from the following billing cycle. Downgrading is done in place from the Pricing page and does not require cancelling.

A single rendered page costs 30 credits: 20 for rendering the illustration and 10 for the page text. Regenerating or editing an existing image costs 15 credits. On your first illustrated book the first 2 rendered pages are free. The exact cost of each action is shown in the editor before you confirm it.

There's no built-in search inside the writing editor. For a single chapter, open it and use your browser's find (Ctrl+F / Cmd+F) — it searches only the chapter currently on screen. To search the whole manuscript at once, export the book as DOCX or PDF and search in Word, Google Docs, or your PDF reader.

Yes. The app's interface language is limited to a few languages (English, Spanish, German, French, Portuguese, Japanese, Italian, Norwegian), but the language the AI writes and translates books in is separate and much broader — you pick the writing language when creating a book (e.g. Vietnamese / Tiếng Việt), and you can also translate an existing book into it. This applies to fiction and non-fiction books, where the Book Language dropdown sits in the Basics step. Visual books work the same way now: the visual Basics step has its own Book Language dropdown, and a finished visual book can also be translated afterwards — text lettered onto an illustration is re-lettered in the target language while the artwork is kept, at 15 credits per page plus 30 credits for the cover and metadata.

This is almost always because the email was slightly misspelled at signup, so the account exists under the typo'd address and login codes / password resets are sent to a mailbox that does not exist. The book and purchased credits are safe on that account. Contact support with the email you intended to use and any other emails you tried; we locate the account, correct the email to the right spelling (confirmed), and you then log in or use Forgot Password at the corrected address. Creating a fresh account with a different email just makes a new empty account and does not recover the original book or credits.

Yes — AIWriteBook imports both images and rich text. The importer takes one Word .docx file; for .pdf, .epub, .rtf, .txt or .md the app asks you to convert to .docx first (in Google Docs or Word use File -> Download -> Microsoft Word). Formatting and embedded images are always kept: bold, italic, headings, tables, line breaks and images. The file is split into chapters by its headings, so start each chapter with a heading like "Chapter 1: ...". Note on true scans: there is no OCR. If a page is a photo/scan with no real text layer, the image itself comes through, but there is no machine-readable text behind it for the AI to build chapters or details from. To get the words (not just the picture), make sure the .docx has actual typed/selectable text — opening the scan in Google Docs, which converts it to editable text, then downloading as .docx is the simplest way. If the material is research/source for a non-fiction book rather than the manuscript itself, upload it as a reference file on the non-fiction book's details step (accepts .txt, .md, .doc, .docx, .pdf, .epub, .rtf); the AI uses it as source material while writing.

No. Purchasing never displays your name anywhere. The 'recent purchase' pop-ups on the pricing page show illustrative example names, not real customers. The only place your name can appear publicly is a personal author page, which is a separate, opt-in feature that is off by default and controlled by an on/off toggle you set yourself.

Your author page is only indexed by Google while it is switched ON. Turn it OFF at aiwritebook.com/app/author using the on/off toggle at the top (next to your author URL). When OFF, the page is paused and set to no-index, so it will not appear in Google searches connected to us. By default it is OFF, so if you never published a public author page, nothing of yours is publicly visible or indexable.

AIWriteBook generates these for you in the Metadata step: 3–5 suggested categories and 7 suggested keywords, plus a keyword research tool. On Amazon KDP you don't type categories — click KDP's "Browse Categories" button and pick 3–5 categories from Amazon's list, using our suggestions as a guide. For keywords, KDP has 7 separate boxes — put one keyword or short phrase per box (not all on one line), copying each suggested keyword across. AIWriteBook does not submit to KDP automatically; you copy the generated categories, keywords, and blurb into your KDP account yourself.

Yes — as long as the subtitle is relevant, reads naturally, and accurately describes the book, with keywords worked in organically. Amazon's enforcement targets keyword stuffing, not keywords: what gets flagged is cramming in unrelated/deceptive search terms, using other authors' or famous titles you have no connection to, or false claims like '#1 Bestseller'. Put any extra search terms that don't fit naturally into the subtitle into KDP's 7 backend keyword slots during upload.

The translation feature translates the whole book chapter by chapter using a current large language model, sending each full chapter with no truncation. It stays 1:1 with your text (no summarizing or rewriting) and preserves formatting, structure, chapter images, and character names, translating in context so prose reads naturally rather than mechanically. It does NOT have a dedicated rule that converts English quotation marks into Spanish em-dash "rayas" — the model may localize some conventions on its own but it is not guaranteed, so plan to standardize dialogue punctuation in a review pass. We don't publish formal rework statistics; realistically expect a proofreading/review pass (mostly dialogue punctuation and the occasional idiom) rather than a heavy rewrite. The book must already exist on the platform, and translation is a Pro-and-above feature.

No — AIWriteBook does not offer a book-to-video, short film, or trailer feature. The closest option is the Audiobook Studio, which turns your written book into a narrated multi-voice audiobook, chapter by chapter, with a distinct AI voice for every character; you can download individual chapters or the complete audiobook. It is voice narration only, not video.

This happens when a first checkout attempt captures the card payment but does not finish activating a subscription (common in incognito/private browsing or after an interrupted checkout), so no confirmation email is sent and the user signs up again, producing a second charge. Only one active subscription exists in the account. Contact support with the account email and the charge dates/amounts; support locates the orphaned duplicate charge and refunds it in full (5–10 business days to reappear), leaving the active subscription untouched. To avoid it, complete checkout in a normal (non-incognito) browser window without closing the tab mid-payment.

There are a few built-in tools for whole-book consistency. (1) "Edit All with AI" on the Story Outline step applies one instruction across every chapter's outline in a single pass, then you regenerate. (2) On that same Story Outline step, "Edit Chapter with AI" on a single chapter card has an "Adapt other chapters to this change" checkbox, which lets the AI adjust the outlines of the other chapters to stay consistent. It changes outlines, not prose you have already generated, so you regenerate the affected chapters afterwards, and note that ticking it costs 3 credits per chapter in the book rather than a flat 3. (3) The "Additional Instructions To AI" field on the chapter writing page sets persistent rules (character details, names, point of view, style). It saves to the book, so it applies to every chapter you generate afterwards and it also carries into every AI Chat edit, where it overrides the tone and style guidance wherever they conflict. Chapters you already generated keep whatever was in that box at the time, so update it there if it differs. (4) The "Author Writing Style" sample on the Details step is also book-level: paste a few pages of your own prose and the generator is told to match it sentence by sentence, on generation and on chat edits. (5) You can choose the model per chapter (Gemini, Claude, Grok); Claude usually gives the best fiction prose. Keeping your Characters page and outline complete and specific is the foundation, since every chapter draws from them. There is no one-click button that rewrites a finished book into consistency after the fact — the tools work on the outline/Story Bible and at generation time.

The cover tool already produces KDP-ready ratios — on the Metadata step choose the "1:1.6 (KDP E-book)" format for an eBook cover, or "2:3 (KDP Print)" for paperback, then use Download. KDP's eBook cover upload wants a JPG (not PNG), so pick the JPG option when downloading — that clears most cover-upload errors. The cover is uploaded to KDP as its own file, separate from the manuscript. For EPUB rejections, make sure a clean cover is set, clear any warnings shown in the Format step's preflight, then regenerate; KDP's rejection message states the exact reason if a specific fix is needed. For the paperback, you no longer have to build the wrap yourself: the Format step generates the full front-spine-back cover PDF with the spine width and barcode zone calculated from your final page count and paper stock, for KDP and IngramSpark and, if you tick them, for Lulu, Draft2Digital with Barnes & Noble Press and BookVault. It also produces the separate eBook cover JPG that the Kindle form asks for, and warns you before generating if the cover image is below 300 DPI at print size.

First, check whether the purchase actually completed: our payment provider (Stripe for newer accounts, RevenueCat for older ones — check the user's "Billing provider" line in their account context and only mention that one) automatically emails a receipt right after a successful checkout. If the account shows no premium and no credits, the checkout most likely came through as cancelled, and any "pending"/"processing" charges on the bank statement are temporary card authorizations that usually drop off on their own within a few days when the purchase doesn't complete. If the user did receive a receipt, ask them to forward it to support@aiwritebook.com — it has the order details we need to locate the exact transaction. Anything beyond that check is a human decision: a person on our team reviews the payment records and decides how it is put right. The assistant must not state, promise or imply which way that goes — do not say the premium will be applied, that the charge will be refunded, or that it will be sorted out. Acknowledge the problem, say a human reviews it, and hand the conversation over.

There is no fixed word-count limit. Two controls set the length: the chapter count (a slider from 1 to 100 on the Basics step, default 20 chapters, 7 on the free plan) and each chapter's target word count. The target is per chapter and you can edit it yourself: open the Outline (Story Bible) step, expand a chapter card and edit "Target Words". The same field is also in the sidebar on the writing screen, so you can change it right before you generate a chapter. The allowed range is 100 to 5,000 words per chapter for fiction and 200 to 5,000 for non-fiction. The number already filled in is just what the outline AI chose when it drafted the plan (on fiction it is told to default to about 1,000 words) - it is a starting point, not a cap, so type any value in range and it is used. Chapter generation follows your target closely, within roughly 10% either way. On a fiction book a target you set by hand is kept when you regenerate the outline; on a non-fiction book the AI redrafts the outline, so check the numbers again after a regeneration. At the 1,000-word default a 20-chapter novel lands around 20,000 words, and adding chapters or raising the per-chapter targets takes it far higher - there is no hard total cap. The live per-chapter word count is shown in the editor toolbar at the top of each chapter; there is no single whole-manuscript total inside the app.

No. The series feature only feeds earlier books in as context when you create a NEW book in the sequence (you start a new book, mark it as a series, and pick the previous books as predecessors), seeding that book's details, characters and outline. It does nothing to finished books and is not a review/diagnostic tool. To review/tighten finished books, open each book and review it chapter by chapter with the AI suggestions and AI Chat Editor (one book at a time).

There's no one-click whole-book reorganize. Restructure in two steps: first reshape the Outline / chapter plan (reorder, merge, split, add/delete chapters, edit outline with AI), then rewrite each chapter in the writing editor with targeted prompts. The AI Chat Editor operates one chapter at a time by design.

This happens when the account was created with "Sign in with Google" (Google OAuth) rather than an email + password. A Google account has no password stored on our side, so requesting a password reset does nothing — there is no password to reset. The fix is to log in the way the account was created: go to aiwritebook.com and click the "Continue with Google" button, then pick the same Google address used at signup, instead of typing an email and password. To confirm this is the cause, check the account's auth provider (admin API shows app_metadata.provider = google and only a google identity, no email/password identity). If the account genuinely uses email+password and reset emails still aren't arriving, that is the separate misspelled-email-at-signup case.

Removing a book from NanoReads is a per-book "unpublish" action on the book's Publish step — it is NOT the same as the public author-page on/off toggle (that toggle only controls your author landing page, not NanoReads distribution). Open the specific book, go to its Publish step, scroll to the NanoReads section, and once a book is published there you'll see an "unpublish" link under the published banner — click it and confirm, and the book is removed from NanoReads. To remove all your books at once, there is also an "unpublish" option in the NanoReads panel on your Author page (aiwritebook.com/app/author). If you don't see the book as published anywhere, it may already be unpublished or be under a different account/email than the one you're logged into.

Monthly credit grants for subscription plans are delivered automatically on the same day-of-month the subscription started (an internal scheduled grant), independent of any card-billing/auto-renew state — so credits keep arriving each month during a paid year even if auto-renew is turned off. The renewal day is fixed to the subscription's start day-of-month and cannot be moved earlier or later. If a user reports 0 credits unexpectedly, first confirm they are logged into the account that actually holds the subscription (some users have a second account).

A user's Content (books, chapters, outlines, characters) is private to their account and not shared with other users; nothing is public unless they opt in (author page / NanoReads cross-publishing are opt-in and off by default). We do not train our AI models on user Content, and we never sell user data. Users keep full ownership and commercial rights to everything they write; our license is limited to storing, processing, and displaying it solely to provide the service, and it ends on deletion. Users can delete content or their account anytime (removed/anonymized within ~90 days). Note: generation runs on third-party LLM providers, so the user's text IS sent to those providers to produce the output — but they are contractual service providers barred from using it for anything else, and data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Do NOT tell users their text never leaves our servers; that is false.

Open the book and go to the Metadata step, scroll to the Front & Back Matter section, find the "Table of Contents" row, and switch "Include in export" off. Then re-generate in the Format step and download from Publish — the table of contents will be gone. The switch applies to PDF, Word (DOCX), and EPUB exports and stays saved for that book.

No. When an author page is turned off, the web address is not deleted — it keeps resolving but serves a generic "This page is paused" placeholder with no book content on it (no title, cover, author name, or details), and the page is marked no-index so Google and other search engines will not list it. The URL still opening is normal and harmless; nothing is public behind it. To make the address point to a live author page again, re-enable it at aiwritebook.com/app/author.

No — free credits are a one-time starting allowance, not a monthly refill. Only a paid subscription adds credits automatically each month (on the renewal date). To keep generating, either subscribe to a plan or buy a one-time credit pack on aiwritebook.com/pricing; in both cases the credits are added immediately. What the free tier already covers (book details, characters, the full outline, and one full chapter) stays free and is never charged.

We do not grant free credits or one-off top-ups — every AI action costs us real usage fees to the underlying AI providers, so free grants are not sustainable. If you need more credits, buy a one-time credit pack (250 credits for $20, or 2,000 credits for $50) on the pricing page (aiwritebook.com/pricing) without changing your subscription. Credits are the in-app currency that pays for AI-powered actions: generating book details/characters/outlines, writing full chapters, AI cover art, in-chapter images, audiobook narration, and book translation. Editing your own text and the grammar/style checker are free and do not cost credits. Typical costs: outline generation is 3 credits per chapter, a full chapter is 15 credits with Gemini, 20 credits with Grok, or 30 credits on premium models (Claude), a cover is 30 credits, and the AI Chat Editor is 5 credits per instruction. Paid plans include a monthly credit allowance that resets each billing cycle and does not roll over: Plus 1,000/month, Pro 5,000/month, Ultra 25,000/month. New accounts on the free tier get a one-time starting balance (enough to generate book details, characters, the outline, and one full chapter) with no monthly refill — to keep generating after that you need a subscription or a one-time credit pack, both on aiwritebook.com/pricing.

Buy links are on the Publish step, in the Author Page section. Add the platform name (e.g. Amazon), the URL where your book is sold, and a label, then save. They appear as clickable links on your public author page so readers can go straight from your author page to a store and buy your book (e.g. your Amazon KDP listing). AIWriteBook doesn't sell books directly — buy links just point readers to wherever you've published/listed the book yourself.

This is almost always pasted-in formatting that travelled with the text. Two cases cause it. (1) Word or Google Docs: the paste carries hidden style tags and stray non-breaking spaces that look fine on screen but surface as odd spacing or leftover codes in the exported EPUB/PDF. (2) Code-editor-style apps such as Obsidian (and anything built on CodeMirror): the paste brings a raw <pre>/<code> block plus <font> tags that our paste cleaner does not strip — the chapter then shows in a monospace font, stops wrapping and scrolls sideways in the editor, and those same tags carry into the EPUB and the print PDF. Paragraph indents and spacing are applied automatically during export, so never ask the AI Chat Editor to add manual indents — it costs credits and does not remove paste artifacts. The fix in both cases is the same, and there is no reset button — re-pasting as plain text is the reset: open the affected chapter, select all, delete, then paste again as plain text (Ctrl+Shift+V on Windows, Cmd+Shift+V on Mac). Do that for each chapter that looks wrong, then re-export.

Yes. Each page card in the Storyboard has up/down arrow buttons to move it. This works even on pages you have already rendered — the rendered content moves with the page, no re-render needed.

This is an inherent limitation of how AI models handle long context, not a bug specific to one book or account — no model can reliably hold an entire multi-chapter manuscript in context on every regeneration through an automated pipeline. Pasting continuity notes into 'Additional Instructions' helps but isn't a complete fix. The most effective lever is a more detailed, structured chapter-by-chapter outline: the more explicitly the outline pins down names, fates, and resolved plot points per chapter, the less the AI has to re-infer from scratch on a regeneration.

Once a book's formatting is unlocked, the Format step produces a print-ready interior PDF (PDF/X-1a), one or more wrap cover PDFs, an EPUB validated with EPUBCheck, a DOCX and the eBook cover JPG the stores ask for separately. Without the unlock, and on Plus, you get the DOCX and the standard PDF; free accounts get the standard PDF with a watermark. One exception depends on the book type: visual/illustrated books (picture books, coloring books, comics) export as PDF only — a standard PDF and a print-ready PDF with an optional 0.125 inch bleed. DOCX and EPUB are not offered for visual books on any plan, because those formats are built from chapter text while a visual book's pages are rendered image layouts.

The Audiobook Studio (/app/tool/audiobook) turns a book you already have on the platform into a finished, narrated audiobook. Your chapter text is the script — there is nothing to upload or paste, you just pick the book and the chapter. You choose a narrator from 25 professional voices (American, British, Australian and Swedish accents, filterable by gender, age and accent) and every one of them has a preview button, so you can listen before you spend anything. All narration runs on ElevenLabs v3, so there is no quality tier to choose or get wrong. When you create a visual book you first generate a style and a set of reference characters. Every page illustration is generated from those references, so the same character keeps a consistent look, outfit, and color across the whole book. Keep each page's "Referenced elements" filled in, since that is what gets sent with the illustration. When a character needs fixing, use "Generate new" rather than "Edit image": Generate new re-sends the style and the attached references, while Edit image sends only the current picture and your words, with no references at all.

AIWriteBook uses two billing providers for direct purchases (subscriptions and coin packs): older accounts are billed through RevenueCat (web billing) and newer accounts through Stripe. The user's account context includes a "Billing provider" line — always check it and tailor billing answers to that provider; never mention the other provider to the user. The in-app flow is the same for both: Profile → Manage subscription automatically opens the correct billing portal (the RevenueCat customer portal for RevenueCat accounts, the Stripe billing portal for Stripe accounts), where the user can cancel, update the payment card, and view receipts/invoices. Purchase receipts and billing emails come from that same provider, and the receipt email links to the same billing portal. Plan upgrades and downgrades are done from the Pricing page, and a user only ever holds one subscription at a time: an upgrade to a more expensive plan applies immediately with a prorated charge invoiced right away, while a downgrade (a cheaper plan, or a switch from a longer billing interval to a shorter one such as yearly to monthly) is scheduled to take effect at the end of the period already paid for, with no partial refund for the unused time. AppSumo lifetime deals are separate — those are billed by AppSumo, not RevenueCat or Stripe.

Grok is available on every fiction book — open the model picker when you write or regenerate a chapter on the Writing step and select it; the explicit-content toggle is no longer required to see it. The app labels it simply "Grok" - it is the latest Grok model, without version numbers. Non-fiction books never offer Grok. Free users can pick Grok for their one free first chapter - that single zero-cost generation is never blocked, so there is no upgrade badge on it. Beyond that first free chapter, using Grok requires Plus and above - this includes the one-time credit pack and every AppSumo tier - so on the free plan any further chapter, and any regeneration, shows an upgrade badge on Grok. Generating explicit/NSFW chapters also requires Plus and above, with the same free-first-chapter exception. Choosing the erotica genre or sexual explicit elements while first setting a book up is a separate, Pro-and-above step. There is no separate "evaluate manuscript" feature; model choice applies to writing and regenerating chapters.

A page illustration only copies a World reference image when that element is attached to the page. On the Storyboard step, open the page card, check its "Referenced elements" section, and use "Add reference" to attach the setting/object/character to every page whose scene shows it — then re-render those pages from the Writing step. If an element should NOT appear (e.g. no house behind the windmill), say so in the page brief when regenerating. Use "Generate new" rather than "Edit image" for anything that has to match a World reference: Generate new re-sends the attached reference images, while Edit image sends only the current picture and your words. Edit image suits small changes that do not depend on a reference, such as removing an object or adjusting the light.

During import, the "What would you like to import?" checkboxes control what gets extracted. If only "Book details" was selected, the chapter text is not imported. To import the file again into the same book: open the book, then change the end of the address in your browser to /import (for example aiwritebook.com/app/book/12345/import). There is no Import tab in the book's step bar. On the "Import already completed" screen click "Start over and delete this import", confirm with "Delete and start over", then choose "Yes, I have a draft", upload the .docx again, and this time check "Chapter content" (add "Chapter outlines" if wanted). Starting over deletes the chapters, sections, outline, characters and images from the old import, including any edits you made inside AIWriteBook, so download a DOCX from the Format step first if you want a copy. The book itself, its title, cover and Format unlock stay, and re-importing into the same book is free. The chapters then appear in the Writing step for reading and editing. Chapters are detected most reliably when each starts with a heading like "Chapter 1: ...".

In the chapter editor of a fiction or non-fiction book, highlight the text you want to link, then click the "+" icon with a small arrow in the formatting toolbar (it sits right before the purple Insert Image button; the word Insert only appears as a tooltip on hover — there is no button labeled Insert). In the menu that opens, click Insert Link; a small box appears next to the menu. Paste the URL into that box (it must not be empty — clicking Insert with an empty field does nothing) and click the purple Insert button or press Enter. Note: while a chapter is being generated by the AI, the whole toolbar is temporarily disabled. Visual/picture books do not have this formatting toolbar.

Checkout accepts credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex), plus Apple Pay, Google Pay and Link (all of which are card wallets and still need a card behind them). SEPA direct debit, Klarna and PayPal are NOT available at checkout. If you have no usable card at all, contact support and we will arrange an alternative manually.

No — deleting a book is permanent. The confirmation dialog warns that it cannot be undone, and the book, its chapters, and its images are removed immediately with no restore option. If the book was originally created by importing a document, you can recreate it in minutes by importing the same file again through the Import flow on the dashboard — the chapters and images are rebuilt from the file, though edits made inside AIWriteBook after the import are not recoverable.

Import the manuscript first: Create New Book -> Import Existing Book -> upload your manuscript as a Word .docx file (for any other format the app shows how to convert it to .docx first) and choose "Full Chapters". Your text is parsed into chapters unchanged, and your first import is free. Then: (1) AI Book Editor (/app/tool/book-editor), currently in beta and open to all plans including free users, 7 credits per 1,000 words during beta (regular 15 credits per 1,000 words, minimum 7 per run) - Review reads the whole book and returns an editorial letter covering POV and consistency plus a style sheet that catches continuity slips across chapters; Line Edit works chapter by chapter and flags grammar, spelling, style and consistency including verb agreement; Proofread catches typos, punctuation and doubled words. (2) Grammar Checker (/app/tool/grammar-checker), 10 credits per run - paste any passage and get the corrected text plus every issue itemized and explained, including pronoun case and subject-verb agreement. (3) Free in the chapter editor: spell check and style check. (4) AI Chat Editor inside a chapter, 5 credits per instruction, for changes like "convert this chapter from third person to first person" - it shows the change and you accept or reject it. There is no single dedicated "POV button": POV, tense and pronoun consistency come out of the Book Editor's Review and Line Edit passes and the Grammar Checker.

Yes. For a small divergence, open the chapter, use the AI Chat Editor and give an instruction such as "Rewrite this scene so X refuses instead of agreeing, keep the voice" - it shows the change highlighted and you accept or reject it (5 credits per instruction). For a full alternate version, click Regenerate on the chapter and put your new direction in "Additional Instructions To AI" (15 credits with the default model). Important: Regenerate OVERWRITES that chapter - the old version is not kept. If you want the original and the alternate side by side, create a second book for the alternate take and paste or import the chapter there first. You do not need a file to get existing text in: you can paste chapter text straight into the editor in the Write step and it saves automatically.

There is no self-serve way to change your login email in the app - there is no email field in the Profile menu. Contact support with the address you want and we will change it on our side. Your books, credits and subscription all stay attached to the same account (everything is keyed to your internal user id, not your email), so nothing is lost. How you log in afterwards depends on how you signed up. If you signed up with an email and password, you simply log in with the new address. If you signed up with Google (or another social login), that social login keeps working exactly as before - it stays linked to your account regardless of the new email. To log in with the new address itself instead, use "Forgot password" on the login page: it sends a code to the new address and lets you set a password.

No. The export prints only the raw chapter title - there is no "Chapter 1" heading above it, in EPUB, print PDF, digital PDF or DOCX. The chapter number you see beside each chapter in the Outline is interface only and never reaches the exported book. There is no setting or one-click option to add chapter numbers. If you want "Chapter 1" to appear in the finished book, rename the chapter title in the Outline tab to "Chapter 1: Your Title".

There are two different AI edit buttons on the outline and they are priced very differently. The 'Edit with AI' button at the top of the outline rewrites the WHOLE outline and is priced at 3 credits per chapter in the outline - so it costs 60 credits on a 20-chapter outline and 120 credits on a 40-chapter one, every single time you use it. The edit button on an individual chapter card only touches that one chapter and costs 3 credits, as long as you leave 'Adapt other chapters' unchecked (which is the default). If you are changing one chapter, always use the per-chapter button: it is 3 credits instead of 120. Use the outline-wide button only when you genuinely want every chapter rewritten to fit a new direction. Typing directly into the outline fields yourself is always free - no AI, no credits.

That is expected behaviour, not a bug. On the free plan, AI outline edits do not deduct credits. Once an account has made any purchase, AI outline edits are charged like every other AI action - 3 credits for a single-chapter edit, or 3 credits per chapter if you use the outline-wide 'Edit with AI' button (so 60 credits on a 20-chapter outline, 120 on a 40-chapter one). The cost is shown in the confirmation dialog as 'Credits required' before each edit runs. To keep costs down, edit one chapter at a time with the per-chapter button (3 credits), and type changes into the outline fields directly when you already know what you want - that is always free.

The file is fine - your device just has no app registered for EPUB. Android in particular has no built-in EPUB reader, so tapping the downloaded .epub shows 'Can't open this file'. Two things to know. First, you do not need to open the EPUB in order to publish: it uploads to Amazon KDP exactly as it is. Second, if you want to read or check it yourself, either install an EPUB reader (Google Play Books via 'Upload files', ReadEra, Apple Books, or Kindle) or download the PDF from the Publish step instead - phones and computers open PDFs natively, and the PDF is clean and unwatermarked on a paid plan.

There is no pause feature. If you want to stop for a while, cancel from Profile > "Manage your subscription" and resubscribe from the Pricing page when you come back. You keep full access and your remaining credits until the end of the period you already paid for, and cancelling deletes nothing — your books, chapters and covers all stay in your account and remain editable and exportable afterwards. Cancel before your next charge date to avoid being billed for the next period. There is no benefit to staying subscribed just to bank credits: subscription credits do not roll over month to month, so a skipped month only costs you credits you were not going to use. Important: cancelling is for stopping, and only for stopping. It is never the way to reach a different plan, tier, billing period or price — for that, switch plans in place from the Pricing page, which keeps the time you already paid for. Never cancel and re-subscribe in order to change what you pay.

There is no limit on the number of books in your account, and creating a book costs nothing. You can start a second, third or tenth book on any plan, including the free one. Writing your chapters yourself is also completely free: typing or pasting your own text into the chapter editor costs zero credits, with no limit on chapters or edits. Credits are only spent on AI actions (generating outlines, chapters, covers, chat-editor passes) and on bulk manuscript import, which costs 10 credits per chapter - your first book import is free, but only once, so a later bulk import is charged. If you are short on credits, you can always add the chapters by pasting them into the editor one at a time for free.

Yes - bring-your-own-key (BYOK) is included in the Ultra plan and in AppSumo Tier 3 and Tier 4. It now works through OpenRouter: you connect a single OpenRouter API key instead of separate provider keys. Go to Settings -> Your Own API Keys, paste your OpenRouter key, and it is verified live before saving, stored encrypted, and can be replaced or removed anytime. Every action that runs on your key costs just 1 credit (you pay OpenRouter directly for the model usage). It covers chapters, outlines, covers and chapter images for regular books, and every visual book step too: world and character images, the style image, page illustrations, image edits, visual book covers and visual book translation. On the chapter writing step you can also pick any model that exists on OpenRouter, hundreds of them (GPT, Llama, DeepSeek, Mistral, Qwen and more), not just our built-in ones. Each custom model is live-checked before it is used. You always need at least 1 credit for any paid action. For audiobooks you can separately connect an ElevenLabs key.

With an OpenRouter key connected, actions cost 1 credit. A full-price charge means we could not use your key for that action and fell back to our own keys: your OpenRouter key was revoked, out of OpenRouter credits, or rate-limited, or the step is one of the few that must run on our keys (for example non-fiction chapters with citations). Check the key status on the Your Own API Keys page and your credit balance on openrouter.ai - enabling auto-top-up there prevents most failures. When you write with a custom OpenRouter model, we never fall back: the chapter generation stops with an error telling you what to fix instead of charging full price.

Prices did not change; only which plan unlocks each feature did. On the free plan you get the full planning flow (book details, characters, the full outline), one free AI-written chapter - which you may write with any model, Grok included - manuscript import, and the editor. Plus and above adds the AI Chapter Writer (generating all your chapters), DOCX export, NanoReads publishing, and explicit/NSFW chapter generation in a book that already has explicit content, including the Grok model; the only exception is that free first chapter, where Grok is available at no cost. The one-time credit pack unlocks everything in the Plus plan - the same feature set as a Plus subscription, with no subscription required - but not Pro-and-above or Ultra features. No. If you have ever purchased anything (any subscription, a one-time credit pack, or a lifetime deal) AND your account was created before 15 July 2026, you keep access to all features on your current plan regardless of the new tier assignments — translation, audiobook, the author page, visual books, book series, and the KDP-ready exports all stay available to you. The only feature grandfathering does not cover is bring-your-own-key (BYOK), which always requires an Ultra subscription or AppSumo Tier 3 and above. If you created your account on or after 15 July 2026, the standard plan tiers apply.

The Format step shows a live preview of your own book. The print preview shows two facing pages the way you see them in an open book, there is an e-reader preview for the EPUB path, and both are rendered by the real export engine from your manuscript, cover and metadata — not a mock-up. Photos you inserted through the editor's image sidebar appear exactly where they will print, and you can move, resize, caption or replace them on the page itself. There are five interior themes (Classic, Modern, Romance, Literary, Readable), 12 embedded body fonts, nine trim sizes — the four most common ones are shown first and the rest are behind "More sizes" — drop caps and scene-break ornaments, or you can take the automatic path and change nothing. The preview is even shown before you unlock formatting, so you can see your own book typeset before you spend the 200 credits.

Yes. Running heads are a setting in the Format step's Layout area: you can switch them off, and when they are on you can edit the text they show, including a per-chapter override. Chapter openings and front matter never carry a running head. If you have not unlocked formatting for the book, the older behaviour still applies to the standard PDF, and the DOCX export has no headers or page numbers at all.

There are two ways to edit a book with AI on AIWriteBook. (1) Inside the book-writing process (for books on the platform): as you write you get grammar and style suggestions, and the built-in AI chat can directly change the text of your chapters for you. (2) The standalone Book Editor tool (/app/tool/book-editor): a more comprehensive, multi-pass editorial process — a developmental review with an editorial letter, then a line-edit pass, then a proofread pass, with suggestions you review and accept or reject chapter by chapter. It accepts either a book from your AIWriteBook library or an uploaded .docx as input, and produces an edited .docx file as output. The Book Editor is in beta and open to all plans including free users (credits still required): 7 credits per 1,000 words during beta, a 50%+ discount off the regular 15 credits per 1,000 words, minimum 7 credits per run. Important: the standalone Book Editor gives you a .docx back — it does not format or publish the book. To turn the edited manuscript into formatted, export-ready files, import the .docx as a draft of a new book on the platform and then generate the files in the Format step. If your book already lives on the platform and you just want quick edits, the AI chat inside the writing process is often the easiest path.

Yes. Formatting is the Format step inside every book, between Metadata and Publish. Open your book, go to Format, and you get a live preview of your own manuscript typeset as a real book. Unlocking formatting for a book costs 200 credits once and is yours forever for that book — you can change the theme, the trim size, the text and the cover and re-generate the files as many times as you like at no further cost. One Generate produces a print-ready interior PDF (PDF/X-1a), wrap covers with the spine width and barcode zone calculated from your final page count, an EPUB validated with EPUBCheck, a DOCX and the separate eBook cover JPG. Formatting needs an active Pro or Ultra plan or any AppSumo lifetime tier, in addition to the unlock. If your manuscript is currently outside the platform (a .docx from Word or from the Book Editor), import it as a draft of a new book first, then use the Format step.

The bars mean the image ratio doesn't match what KDP expects for that format. For the Kindle ebook, download the cover from the Metadata step using the "1:1.6 (KDP E-book)" format as JPG — a 2:3 image gets letterboxed with black bars on the ebook side. For the paperback, KDP expects one full wrap file (back + spine + front) — AIWriteBook generates the front cover only, so build the wrap in KDP Cover Creator using the "2:3 (KDP Print)" front image; it adds the spine and back sized to your page count.

No. Re-importing replaces what is already in the book: to put a new draft into a book you already created you open the book, change the end of the address in your browser to /import (for example aiwritebook.com/app/book/12345/import). There is no Import tab in the book's step bar. On the "Import already completed" screen click "Start over and delete this import", confirm with "Delete and start over", then choose "Yes, I have a draft" and upload the .docx. Starting over deletes the chapters, sections, outline, characters and images from the old import, including any edits you made inside AIWriteBook, so it throws away your work instead of fixing the export. Export issues are fixed in place: the Table of Contents and other sections are toggled on the Metadata step under Front & Back Matter — turn the section on, then regenerate the files in the Format step; regenerating is free once the book is unlocked. Pasting or editing your own text directly in the Writing editor is always free; credits are only spent on AI generation.

The file is fine - your device most likely just doesn't have an app installed that opens Word (.docx) files. Two options: (1) Simplest, use the PDF export instead - it opens on any phone or computer with nothing extra to install. (2) If you need the editable Word version, open it for free in Google Docs: go to drive.google.com, click New then File upload, pick the file, and double-click it to open (it also opens in Word Online at office.com, the Word app, or Pages on Mac).

The Format step's themes decide this. Classic, Modern, Romance and Literary set justified body text with hyphenation, which is the standard trade-paperback look; Readable is deliberately ragged-right because that is easier for some readers. Pick a justified theme in the Layout area and the print PDF and EPUB come out with straight edges on both sides. The DOCX stays block style, because it is an editing and hand-off file rather than a finished reading artifact.

Plan changes are made in place from the Pricing page (or Profile -> "Manage your subscription"), confirmed through the Stripe confirmation dialog, and you only ever hold one subscription at a time. You never cancel a subscription in order to change it — never advise cancelling and re-subscribing to reach a different plan, tier, billing period or price, because it forfeits the remainder of the period already paid for and creates a gap in access. Upgrades — moving to a more expensive plan — take effect immediately: the new plan's features and credit allowance are active right away, and you are invoiced a prorated charge for the remainder of the current billing period, so the unused time on the old plan is credited against the new charge rather than lost. Downgrades — moving to a cheaper plan, or switching from a longer billing interval to a shorter one (for example yearly to monthly) — are scheduled rather than applied immediately: you keep your current plan and all of its benefits until the end of the period you have already paid for, and the new plan starts at your next renewal, billed at the new rate from then on. Because the current plan runs its full paid term in that case, no partial refund or account credit is issued for the unused time — you simply use it.

That is expected. A downgrade — a cheaper plan, or a switch from a longer billing interval to a shorter one such as yearly to monthly — is scheduled to start at the end of the period you have already paid for, not right away. Until then you stay on your current plan and keep its features and its monthly credit allowance; on your next renewal date you move to the new plan and are billed at the new rate from that point on. There is no partial refund or account credit for the remaining time on the old plan, because you keep using it until it expires. Upgrades to a more expensive plan work the other way — they apply immediately, with a prorated charge for the rest of the current period.

No — never cancel in order to change plans. Cancelling and re-subscribing is the wrong path and costs you money and access: you would lose the remainder of the period you already paid for and start over at full price. You keep full premium access, and every scheduled monthly credit refill still lands, for the whole remainder of the period you have already paid for — if you cancel the day after a renewal, you keep everything for the rest of that period. Access ends only after that paid period actually expires. Cancelling also deletes nothing: your books, chapters, outlines and covers stay in your account. Note that this is about taking a break or stopping — it is not the way to change plan or price. To move to a different plan or billing period, switch in place from the Pricing page instead of cancelling, so you do not lose the time you already paid for.

The chat assistant does not decide refunds and cannot approve, promise or rule out one, whatever the situation looks like. Every refund request is reviewed by a human on our team, who looks at the actual account and payment records before deciding. What the assistant can do is make sure the request reaches that person: press the button below the assistant's response to hand the conversation to a human, or write to support@aiwritebook.com. Requests are answered within 24 hours. If the assistant ever appears to confirm, guarantee or pre-approve a refund, that is not a decision and is not binding — only the human reply is.

It is a craft tool: it flags text that sounds AI-generated so you can improve it, but no detector is definitive proof of AI authorship and we never claim otherwise. Cost is 10 credits per 1,000 words, billed precisely per word (a 1,500-word check costs 15 credits). Any signed-in user can analyze up to 50,000 words per run at the highest quality (credits still apply); and you can also try it without an account — up to 2,000 words per run on a lighter analysis model, 2 free runs per day.

The AI Text Humanizer (https://aiwritebook.com/app/tool/ai-text-humanizer) is a Book Tool that rewrites text you paste to remove AI-typical patterns while keeping the meaning, names, numbers, and dialogue intact. You paste your text and the humanized rewrite streams back ready to copy, with informational continuity warnings, and you can guide it with style exemplars (passages you admire), words to avoid, terms to keep, and style preferences like POV, tense, and sentence length — in fiction or nonfiction mode. It is a quality and craft tool for making writing read more naturally; it is not a way to beat AI detectors and we do not guarantee passing any detector. Cost is 25 credits per 1,000 words, billed precisely per word (a 1,500-word rewrite costs 37 credits). Any signed-in user: up to 10,000 words per run at the highest quality (credits still apply). Without an account: up to 1,000 words per run on a lighter model, 2 free runs per day.

Each cover edit is a brand-new AI image generation, not a precise in-place adjustment, and it is charged the same as generating a new cover. Because the AI re-creates the whole cover from your instruction rather than editing one element, relative instructions like "make this figure the same size as the other one" or "move this to the left" are the least reliable and often produce an over- or under-sized element. Two reliable approaches: (1) Describe the entire composition in a single cover-generation prompt — for example, "two figures of equal size, same height, standing side by side facing each other" — instead of chaining many small edits; (2) For exact, pixel-level control, edit the image in any tool you like (Canva, Preview, Photoshop) and upload it as your custom cover — uploading a finished cover uses no credits. You can also reuse the descriptive terms from a cover you already like as the starting point for a new one to keep a series looking consistent.

Citations are not automatic — they only appear if the book was set up for them. In the non-fiction Details/setup step there is an "Include citations" toggle, and it only becomes available after you upload at least one reference/source file. If no reference files were uploaded, the toggle stays off and chapters are written without any citations, so there is nothing to find. Citations are also generated only at the moment each chapter is written, so switching the setting on afterwards does not add references to chapters that already exist. To add them: open the book's non-fiction setup step, upload your reference/source files, turn on "Include citations," and then regenerate each chapter you want cited (regenerating rewrites the chapter from scratch and overwrites any manual edits, so save those first). Proper source-based citations are produced on the Sonnet model. Once enabled, references show as a reference list at the end of each chapter with inline numbered markers in the text — there is no separate standalone bibliography page — and they carry through into your EPUB, PDF, and DOCX exports as long as the setting stays on.

A few expectations to set: (1) AIWriteBook is a self-serve tool you use to write and export your own book — it does not produce finished books on your behalf, but it can generate a comprehensive multi-chapter non-fiction book from an outline you set up. (2) It does not reproduce the exact text or images from a reference file you upload; copyrighted material is not copied. Uploaded reference files are used only as a source for the AI to write original, citation-aware chapters, and you add images either by generating AI illustrations or by uploading your own into each chapter. (3) There is no setting to automatically print custom text (such as a name and phone number) on every page — you can add that information on the cover, title page, or copyright page in the Metadata step. Generating a large book uses credits, so a paid plan is needed to produce a full multi-chapter book.

That is expected: the Import feature is designed to bring your existing manuscript in exactly as you wrote it, without changing a word. Import is not the AI-writing step, so it never adds, rewrites, or continues your text. To get new AI-written content you have to run generation on a chapter: open the chapter in the editor and use the Generate / Continue writing button (or Regenerate). If you want to keep your own text and have the AI improve or rewrite it instead, open the chapter and use the AI Editor (the chat panel beside the editor) and tell it what to change. Both of these AI actions cost credits — importing and generating outlines also use credits — so if your balance is at 0 you will need to add credits or start a plan before you can generate or rewrite. Writing or editing your own text directly in the editor is always free.

One-time credit purchases (for example a 2,000-credit pack) are non-refundable once the credits have been delivered to your account, as set out in our Terms & Conditions. The 7-day money-back guarantee applies only to the original subscription purchase, and even then only if less than 50% of that billing period's credits have been used. The chat assistant states this policy but does not decide any individual case — every request is reviewed by a human on our team who checks the account and payment records. The standalone Book Editor autosaves your progress as you work — there is no separate Save button. Your finished, proofread manuscript comes from the Download button (a .docx file) on the last step of the tool. The Book Editor is a standalone editor: its edits do not write back into the book on your main Book pages, so accepting suggestions there does not change the chapters shown in the normal writing process. To bring the corrected chapters back onto the platform (for formatting, export, cover, or publishing), import the downloaded .docx as a draft of a new book, then use the Format step to generate the files and download them from Publish.

The Metadata step — where the cover upload lives — unlocks once every chapter in your outline has content. If some outline chapters are still empty, the step stays locked, and clicking it only shows a 'finish the previous step' notice instead of opening it. To unlock it, either add text to (or generate) the remaining empty chapters, or delete the empty outline chapters you don't need. Once every chapter has content the Metadata step opens and you can upload or generate your cover; saving the cover then unlocks the Format and Publish steps.

Go to aiwritebook.com/support while signed in. The page shows all your support chats in a sidebar with status and unread indicators, newest first — click any chat to reopen and continue it, or start a new one. You can also reach the same chat from the in-app 'Need help?' bubble, or email support@aiwritebook.com. A person replies within 24 hours.

Use the password reset: go to aiwritebook.com/auth/forgot-password, enter the exact signup email, open the reset email (check spam), set a new password, and log in at aiwritebook.com/auth/login. Alternatively, "Continue with Google" also works if the Google account uses the SAME email address — Google sign-in matches the existing account by email, so the subscription, credits, and books are all there. What must be avoided is signing up again with a DIFFERENT email: that creates a brand-new empty account while everything stays on the original one.

There is no indicator. "Edit All with AI" passes every chapter in the book through the model in one run, and nothing marks, badges or diffs the chapters whose text actually changed — and there is no timestamp in the app you can read either. Two ways to work around it: (1) for a targeted change, use the "Edit with AI" pencil on the individual chapter card instead — it costs 3 credits and you know exactly which chapter was touched; (2) if you want the whole-outline pass, copy the outline text into a document first so you have a before-version to compare against. Note that Edit All charges 3 credits per chapter in the book every time it runs, so a 36-chapter book costs 108 credits per run.

Good news: the cause of that in the old version is gone. Your narrator and your character cast are now saved with the audiobook project itself, not in your browser, so they carry across every chapter automatically — there is nothing to re-select per chapter, and switching device, browser or private window changes nothing. All narration also runs on ElevenLabs v3, so there is no Standard/Premium engine to switch between and no length threshold that quietly downgrades a chapter. What does still vary is that each render is synthesized fresh, so timbre and pacing shift slightly from one run to the next even on the identical voice, and emotion tags deliberately change delivery — that is the point of them. If a passage lands wrong, re-record just that paragraph: change its voice or its emotion tag, or re-record it together with the lines around it so the whole exchange is produced in one take and matches.

The Public Roadmap is the board where you can see what we are considering building next and tell us which of it matters to you. Sign in and click "Public Roadmap" in the left sidebar of the dashboard, or go straight to https://aiwritebook.com/app/public-roadmap. It has two tabs: "Voting" lists the ideas that are still open, highest-scoring first, and "Completed" lists what has already shipped, newest first. On any open idea you can vote for it or against it, leave a comment, and you can add ideas of your own. Note that the open side is a list of candidates whose priority is shaped by votes — it is not a delivery schedule, and no dates are attached to anything on it.

Each open idea has an up arrow ("Vote for this") and a down arrow ("Vote against this"). Voting for an idea adds your vote weight to its score; voting against it takes exactly the same amount back off, so a vote against cancels out a vote for of the same size. You get one vote per idea and you can change it whenever you like: click the other arrow to switch sides, or click the arrow you already picked to take your vote back entirely. The "Voting" tab is ordered by score, so whatever most people are pushing for sits at the top. Voting costs nothing and uses no credits.

Votes on the Public Roadmap are weighted by plan, so the people paying for the product have more say in what gets prioritized. The weights are Free 1, Plus 3, Pro 10 and Ultra 20, and a yearly plan doubles whatever your plan is worth — a yearly Ultra vote counts 40. A one-time credit purchase counts the same as Plus, 3. Your own weight is shown at the top of the board ("Your vote counts Nx"), and it applies in both directions: voting against an idea takes that same number back off its score.

Yes. Voting, commenting and suggesting ideas are open on every plan, free included — nothing on the board is behind a paywall and none of it spends credits. You do need a real account: browsing in a guest session lets you read every idea, but you have to sign up (free) before you can take part. A free vote is worth 1 and paid plans carry further, but a free account is a full participant.

Open the Public Roadmap and click "Suggest a feature". Give it a one-line title and describe the problem you are trying to solve — as you type, the form shows similar requests already on the board, so you can vote for one of those instead. You can post up to 5 requests in any rolling 7-day window; each one frees up seven days after you posted it. Every submission is checked by AI before it goes live: it lightly tidies the wording (grammar, tone and clarity — never the meaning or the details you gave) and turns away abuse, spam and off-topic posts with an explanation you can act on.

New submissions are checked against everything already on the board. If an open request asks for the same thing, you are shown that one instead — vote for it so it climbs, rather than splitting the votes between two copies of the same idea. If it is something we have already shipped, you are pointed at it on the "Completed" tab, where it is marked as built and is in the product right now. The check only turns a submission away when it is the same job, not merely the same topic, the same screen or the same file format; if yours genuinely is different, rewrite it so the difference is explicit and post it again.

Yes — every item has comments, on open and already-shipped ideas alike, and that is the place to say what an idea would change for you or why you disagree with it. You can post up to 20 comments a day (each frees up 24 hours after you posted it) and a single comment can run to 5,000 characters. Comments go through the same AI check as requests: it fixes typos and formatting without touching your opinion or softening a blunt point, and turns away insults, hate speech, spam and comments unrelated to the item they sit under. You can delete your own comments at any time; there is no editing, so post again if you want to change something.

Everything on the "Voting" tab is a candidate, not a commitment. Votes tell us what matters most to the people actually using the product and they genuinely shape what we pick up next, but a high score is not a promise that an idea will be built, and we do not give dates, estimates or an order of delivery for anything on the board — please do not plan or buy around an item that is still open. An item is marked "Planned" or "In progress" only once work has actually started on it, and it moves to the "Completed" tab when it ships. The "Completed" tab is the factual part: everything listed there is built and available in the product today.

A fiction book's draft import takes exactly one file, and there is no way to attach a second document to a fiction book afterwards. Multiple uploads exist only for non-fiction books, as Reference Files on the Details step (up to 10 files there, added one at a time), so as a novelist you will not see that option. The workaround is to merge everything into a single .docx before importing, and the order inside that file matters: material placed at the beginning carries the most weight, both when the import is parsed and when the AI writes from it, so put your world-building and background detail at the top, ahead of the outline and the manuscript. You can also enter material by hand at no credit cost instead of uploading it: extra people, places, factions or objects can be added as entries under Characters on the book's Details step, with their specifics written into the Background field, and standing rules the AI should follow everywhere go into "Additional Configurations for AI" on the chapter writing page, which applies to every chapter of the book once saved. To put a new draft into a book you already created: open the book, then change the end of the address in your browser to /import (for example aiwritebook.com/app/book/12345/import). There is no Import tab in the book's step bar. On the "Import already completed" screen click "Start over and delete this import", confirm with "Delete and start over", then choose "Yes, I have a draft" and upload the new .docx. Starting over deletes the chapters, sections, outline, characters and images from the old import, including any edits you made inside AIWriteBook, so download a DOCX from the Format step first if you want a copy. The book itself, its title, cover and Format unlock stay, and re-importing into the same book is free.

That is intentional, and it is the standard book convention. Every exported book now uses first-line indented paragraphs in the EPUB and in both PDFs (the print-ready PDF and the preview/digital PDF): each paragraph starts with a small indent and there is no blank-line gap between paragraphs. The very first paragraph of a chapter, and the first paragraph after a scene break, are set flush left with no indent - that is exactly how traditionally published print books and e-books look. Publishing convention (including Amazon's own KDP guidance) is indent OR a blank-line gap, never both: the EPUB used to apply both, which is the classic amateur-ebook tell, and the print PDF used to apply neither. Both are now correct. The DOCX (Word) file is deliberately left in block style - no first-line indent, a space between paragraphs - because DOCX is an editing and hand-off file you open in Word or send to an editor, not a finished reading artifact. So a DOCX that looks different from your EPUB is working as designed, not broken. Indented versus block paragraphs is now a control in the Format step's Layout area, so you can change it for your own book; if your earlier download looks different, re-generate in the Format step and you will get the current formatting.

Use the editor's Insert menu and choose Horizontal Line at the point where the scene changes. That is the reliable marker: it exports as a real break, and the paragraph that follows it is set flush left with no indent, which is how a scene change is signalled in a published book. Typing *** on its own line also works - it is carried through to the export exactly as you typed it. A plain blank line works too, with one thing to know about how blank paragraphs are tidied when the Format step typesets the book: empty paragraphs at the very start and the very end of a chapter are dropped, several empty paragraphs in a row collapse into a single one, and one deliberate blank line between two paragraphs is kept as a visible gap. That cleanup exists because most stray empty paragraphs are leftovers from pasting out of Word or Google Docs. So if you want a scene break to be unmistakable, use the horizontal line rather than relying on blank lines. All of this applies to the EPUB and both PDFs; the DOCX export keeps its own block spacing and is not affected.

Reference files live on the Details step of a non-fiction book - they are the source documents the AI writes and cites from. The limits are: up to 10 files per book, up to 10 MB per file, and up to 100,000 words in total across all the reference files on that book. The counter under the upload button shows both how many of the 10 file slots you have used and how many of the 100,000 words are used, and a file that would push the total over 100,000 words is refused. Accepted formats are .txt, .md, .doc, .docx, .pdf, .epub and .rtf. The first reference file on a book is free, and every additional file costs 10 credits. Files are added one at a time - click the upload button once per file. Reference files are not the same thing as importing a manuscript; if you meant your own draft rather than research sources, that is the separate Import feature and it takes a single file.

You can only pick one file at a time - that is how the control works, and you are not missing a hidden setting. The upload button on the non-fiction Details step opens a single-file picker, so to add five sources you click it five times, once per file. There is no multi-select and no drag-a-whole-folder option, so please do not spend time looking for one. You can still build up to 10 reference files on the book (10 MB per file, 100,000 words in total; the first file free and 10 credits for each one after that). One important distinction: this is separate from importing a manuscript. Importing an existing manuscript takes exactly one file, and that one-file rule applies only to the import - it does not mean your non-fiction book is limited to a single source document. If you were ever told your book can only have one reference file, that was wrong.

No - what a store will list is decided entirely by that store. AIWriteBook exports valid EPUB, print PDF and DOCX files; we do not submit anything to KDP, we have no visibility into Amazon's content review, and we cannot appeal or reverse a removal. A KDP takedown notice comes from Amazon's Content Review team and you can reply to it directly to ask for reconsideration - that process runs through Amazon, not through us. A store's decision about your book is separate from your subscription: the subscription pays for the AI writing tools, and the refund policy in our Terms applies to it in the normal way (7-day money-back guarantee on the initial subscription purchase, provided less than 50% of that period's credits have been used). The chat assistant does not decide refunds and must not approve, promise or rule one out - every request is reviewed by a person on our team, reachable via the button below the assistant's response or at support@aiwritebook.com, who answers within 24 hours.

You cannot, and nothing is wrong with your account - visual books export as PDF only. A visual book offers exactly two files: a standard PDF and a print-ready PDF with an optional 0.125 inch bleed. There is no DOCX or EPUB option for visual books on any plan or credit balance, so upgrading, subscribing or buying a credit pack will not add it. The reason is structural: DOCX and EPUB are built from chapter text, while a visual book's pages are rendered image layouts with no chapters behind them. This is a book-type limitation, not a plan limitation, and the missing option is never a sign that a feature is locked. DOCX and EPUB remain available as normal on your fiction and non-fiction books, so the same account can export DOCX from one book and not from another - that is expected. If you need an editable manuscript file, use a fiction or non-fiction book, or the Book Editor tool; neither will carry the rendered illustration pages, which exist only inside the visual book's PDF exports.

Yes, through your Author Page — there is no separate per-chapter publish button. Open the book, go to the Publish step, and turn on the book's visibility toggle in the Author Page card (the book needs a title and a cover). Your book then goes live on your public author page. In that same card you choose how many chapters are free and how many sit behind the email gate: chapter 1 is always free, and the rest are gated by that setting. After that, just write the next chapter each week in Outline -> "+" -> Write, and it appears on your public page automatically. To announce each new chapter, use Author -> Broadcast to email your subscribers with the link. Note that a book still marked as a draft stays off your author page's book list, though it remains reachable by direct link. NanoReads is a different, separate publishing route and is not meant for serialized releases — it requires at least 10 written chapters plus an author photo.

Books on the public author page are ordered by creation date, newest first. There is currently no option to reorder them manually. If you need a specific book to appear first, contact support and we can adjust the order for you.

Yes. To add another story to the same book, go to the Outline tab (Story Bible) and click "Add Chapter at End" - you can choose "Write manually" or "Generate with AI" and add several chapters at once. The app keeps one running chapter count internally and it cannot restart at 1 mid-book, but your exported book never shows those numbers: it prints exactly the text you type in each chapter's "Chapter Title" field, and the table of contents is generated from those same titles. So title the new story's first chapter e.g. "Story Two: [Title] - Chapter One", then "Chapter Two", and so on. You can also add one extra chapter card titled just with the story's name to act as a divider page in the table of contents. If you use "Edit with AI" on the new chapters, uncheck "Adapt other chapters to this change" so the first story is not rewritten. Alternatively, create the new story as its own book from the dashboard ("Create New Book") - books are unlimited and creating one is free - which gives it its own cover, numbering, and export.

There is no dedicated world-building step for text books; use three places: (1) the 'Additional Instructions To AI' box in the chapter writing editor — paste your world and location descriptions there; it is saved per book and applied to every chapter generation and AI Chat edit; (2) on the Outline step, expand a chapter card and fill the 'Locations' and 'Additional Notes' fields to pin the setting for that scene; (3) for a full world bible, add major locations or factions as entries on the Characters step with their description in the Background field — the AI treats everything there as canon. Chapters written before you added these details won't include them; regenerate the chapter or use an AI Chat edit afterwards.

Nothing is wrong with your book, and the label never blocks anything. The status on a book card is worked out from the book's own contents each time the dashboard loads. A book moves to "Metadata" at 90% once every chapter or page has content, and to "Export" at 100% once a cover is saved. There is no "Finished" label in the app: "Export" is what a completed book shows. Export and publishing are controlled separately by the step bar inside the book, so a book can be fully exportable while the card still shows an earlier step.

Yes, this works now. The visual flow has its own Book Language dropdown on the Basics step, just like fiction and non-fiction, so an illustrated book can be created directly in Indonesian or any of the other 37 book languages — your app interface language no longer decides it. Translating an existing visual book works too: words drawn into an illustration are extracted, translated and re-lettered onto the artwork in the target language, keeping the original style, position and sizing, at 15 credits per page plus 30 credits for the cover and metadata. Text-based fiction and non-fiction books can be written or translated in all 37 book languages, Indonesian included.

Some actions genuinely take time without showing progress - for example, downloading a full-resolution book cover pulls a large file and, for the JPG option, re-encodes it on your device, which can take 15-30 seconds on a phone. Give it half a minute first. If nothing happens after that, reload the page: reloading is always safe in AIWriteBook and does not lose your work, because your content is saved continuously. If the button is still unresponsive after a reload, contact support and mention which page and button it was.

No - this is not a plan limit. The Book Editor applies no plan or content gating, and mature content is included on every paid plan. The message comes from the AI model's own safety filter, which occasionally misfires on intense passages, for example graphic violence, even when nothing sexual is involved. Selecting a shorter passage that leaves out the intense clause, or rewording it slightly and reselecting, usually gets past the filter. Editing passes and rewrites cost no credits, so a blocked attempt never wastes credits.

The book description takes up to 10,000 characters, and every instruction field on the Details step (audience, tone, style, what makes the book great, your writing style) takes up to 10,000 characters each. Character fields (background, personality, voice, motivation, conflicts, arc) have no length limit. Each chapter's target length is 100-5,000 words, with up to 100 chapters per book. For non-fiction you can upload up to 10 reference files (PDF, DOCX, DOC, TXT, MD, EPUB, RTF; 10 MB each; 100,000 words total) - the first file is free, each additional costs 10 credits. Everything is plain text typed into the fields; no special format is needed.

Series continuation is available on Pro and above (on AppSumo, Tier 3 and above). Create the new book, and on its first setup step (Series) answer Yes to 'Is this book a continuation of a series?'. You can select your existing AIWriteBook books directly from your dashboard, or upload previous books written elsewhere (up to 5 books, 200,000 words per file). Series processing costs 50 credits for each previous book you include, and it is charged again every time you start another book in the series, so attaching 4 previous books costs 200 credits for that book. It carries forward the characters who are still relevant, a synopsis of the story so far, and the writing style, and feeds them into the new book's details, characters and outline; chapters then inherit the series through those, not directly. Setting and world details come across only as far as they appear in that synopsis, since places are not stored as separate records, and character relationships are not stored either. Character descriptions are regenerated rather than copied, so wording can drift between books; only names are held stable. If you connect your own OpenRouter key (Ultra, or AppSumo Tier 3 and 4), series processing costs 1 credit instead of 50 per previous book. If you also have a partial draft of the new book, the next step lets you import it with the series context applied.

Split it by purpose: voice and cadence samples go in the Author Writing Style field; hard rules, reader profile, and themes go in 'Additional Instructions To AI' on the writing page; per-chapter directions go in each chapter's Additional Notes in the outline; and source material or research goes in Reference Files. Important: reference files are read when the OUTLINE is generated - excerpts are pinned to each chapter then, and only those excerpts reach the chapter writer. Upload reference files BEFORE generating the outline; files added afterwards do not affect chapter writing unless you regenerate the outline. Import Draft sets structure only and does not attach reference material.

Almost always the chapter is safe. Generation streams the text to your browser while the server writes it. If the connection drops mid-stream (Safari reports this as 'Load failed'), the text on screen stops or the chapter looks empty, but the server finishes and saves the full chapter. Reload the page or reopen the book from your dashboard before pressing Generate again. Credits are only deducted when a chapter completes, so an interrupted stream costs you nothing. If the chapter is still empty after a full reload, contact support with the chapter number.

The import screen has one radio group, 'How developed is your draft?', with four levels. Only the top level, 'Has full chapter text', brings your chapter text across. The levels below it import details, characters or outlines only, which leaves every chapter empty. To fix it, open the book, then change the end of the address in your browser to /import (for example aiwritebook.com/app/book/12345/import). There is no Import tab in the book's step bar. On the 'Import already completed' screen click 'Start over and delete this import', confirm with 'Delete and start over', then choose 'Yes, I have a draft', upload the file again and choose 'Has full chapter text'. Set 'Chapters to import' to the exact number of chapters in your file, since a mismatch cancels the import and saves nothing, and make sure each chapter starts with a heading like 'Chapter 1: ...'. Starting over deletes the chapters, sections, outline, characters and images from the old import, including any edits you made inside AIWriteBook, so download a DOCX from the Format step first if you want a copy. The book itself, its title, cover and Format unlock stay, and re-importing into the same book is free.

There is no series entity yet: books are not grouped into a named series, and there is no series bible screen to open, view or correct. Each new book pulls the previous ones in as context at the moment you create it, so you select or upload the previous books again for every new book, and the 50-credits-per-previous-book cost applies again each time. What carries over is the characters still relevant to the new book, a synopsis of the story so far, the aggregated tone, style and genres, and the writing style; these seed the new book's details, characters and outline. Locations, factions and character relationships are not stored as records, so they survive only as far as they appear in the synopsis prose, and character descriptions are regenerated rather than copied, so wording can drift between books. To hold continuity manually, keep one master file of your canon outside the app and reuse it unchanged in every book: add each recurring location or faction as a card with "Add New Character (Manual)" on the Characters step (name in Character Name, description in Background), paste your world rules and atmosphere into "Additional Instructions To AI" in the writing editor, and use the Locations and Additional Notes fields on each Outline chapter card. Pasting the same text in every book is what keeps descriptions identical across a series. A true series with shared records is an open request on the public roadmap at https://aiwritebook.com/app/public-roadmap, where you can vote on it.

The Format step typesets the book: mirrored inside and outside margins, a gutter that scales with the final page count following Amazon's table, alternating running heads suppressed on chapter openings and front matter, roman front-matter folios restarting at arabic 1 at chapter one, a table of contents whose page numbers match the typeset pages, chapters starting on the recto, drop caps, scene-break ornaments and hyphenation. You choose from nine trim sizes — 5 x 8, 5.25 x 8, 5.5 x 8.5 and 6 x 9 are shown first, and 6.14 x 9.21, 8 x 10, 8.5 x 8.5, 7 x 10 and 8.5 x 11 are behind "More sizes", with 6 x 9 and 7 x 10 also available as large print — 5 interior themes (Classic, Modern, Romance, Literary, Readable) and 12 embedded body fonts, or let the automatic path derive everything, and you can edit text, ornaments and images directly on the formatted page. The print interior is written as PDF/X-1a:2001 with fonts embedded and colours converted to CMYK, which is what IngramSpark and BookVault ask for and what KDP, Lulu, Draft2Digital and Barnes & Noble Press accept. AIWriteBook also builds the print cover wrap — front, spine and back as one file with the spine width and barcode zone calculated from your final page count and paper — for KDP and IngramSpark, and for Lulu, Draft2Digital with Barnes & Noble Press and BookVault if you tick them. There is no built-in way to restore a previous illustration, and the Undo arrows in the page editor only undo text and layout changes in your current session — they do not affect illustrations. "Render page" and "Generate new" both redraw the picture, but they do send your art style and the page's attached references, so a character with its references attached stays recognisable. "Edit image" keeps the current picture and changes only what you describe, but it sends no references at all, so it is the weaker choice whenever a character's likeness matters. The print-ready PDF from the Format step is the one that carries the print layout: 17 trim sizes, bleed derived automatically from your images, mirrored margins with a KDP gutter, running heads and page numbers, all written as PDF/X-1a with the fonts embedded. DOCX export is available on Plus and above and on every AppSumo tier. The print-ready PDF comes from the Format step, which needs an active Pro or Ultra plan or any AppSumo tier plus the book's one-time 200-credit unlock.

No. The Audiobook Studio locks the chapter list when you create the project, and it does not re-read chapters whose text you changed in the book afterwards. To pick up a new chapter or edited text, finish the book first, then delete the project in the Audiobook Studio project list and start a new session. The Studio shows the credit estimate before you commit, and turning multi-voice off makes a rebuild cheaper. Inside an existing project you can still edit any single line and press "Generate this line only", which is the way to make small wording fixes without rebuilding.

There is no on/off switch and no per-action selection. The control is the key itself: open your profile menu, go to Your Own API Keys, and use Remove key to stop using it, then paste it back in when you want it active again. There is one choice by provider: your OpenRouter key covers text and images, visual books included, your ElevenLabs key covers audio narration, and they are separate, so you can connect one and leave the other empty. While a key is connected we always try it first and the action costs 1 credit. If your key is rejected we fall back to our own keys and charge the normal credit price for that action, provided your balance covers that normal price; if it does not, the action fails instead.

Both cost the same and both redraw the picture with AI. The difference is what the AI is shown. "Generate new" sends your art style image and the character and object references attached to that page, so it holds likenesses and style. "Edit image" sends only the current picture and your instruction, with no references attached. For anything about a character's face, age, hair, clothing or identity, use "Generate new" and keep the page's "Referenced elements" filled in. Use "Edit image" for small changes that do not involve a character's likeness, such as removing an object or adjusting light. Neither is a precise in-place edit; there is no masking or region locking, so "keep everything else identical" is a request the model may not honour.

One-time pack credits are always spent first, then your monthly subscription credits. The Profile page shows one total, which is the sum of both. Monthly credits are replaced, not added to, on your grant date; pack credits do not reset, so spending them first means nothing of yours is lost to the monthly reset.

Yes. Generate the files in the Format step and download the print-ready interior from Publish. It is written as PDF/X-1a:2001 — the standard IngramSpark asks for — with mirrored margins and a gutter sized to your page count, running heads, page numbers, colours converted to CMYK with the FOGRA39 coated profile and every font embedded. The Format step also builds the IngramSpark cover wrap with the spine width from your final page count, so you do not need their template. If IngramSpark flags a file you downloaded before 9 September 2026, generate again and re-download, because older files had a non-embedded fallback font in the header and page numbers.

Every render uses ElevenLabs model eleven_v3, through their text-to-dialogue endpoint for most chunks and text-to-speech for single lines too long for it. The flash and turbo models and Conversational AI are not used, and you cannot pick the model yourself. If you want model choice, request it on the Public Roadmap.

The References list under a non-fiction chapter is stored separately from the chapter text, so the AI chat editor cannot remove it. Open the chapter in the editor, scroll to the References box below the text, hover over an entry and click the trash icon (Delete reference). Repeat for each entry in each chapter. Deleted entries also disappear from your EPUB, PDF and DOCX exports. There is currently no single switch that clears references for the whole book at once.

The AI writes formulas with plain math symbols (for example ∀x, ⊨, x², a₁), so they display correctly in the editor and in EPUB, PDF and DOCX exports. There is no LaTeX typesetting and no LaTeX export. Equations inside an imported Word file are not kept; they become a placeholder, so retype them as symbols after import. LaTeX export is a request on the public roadmap (https://aiwritebook.com/app/public-roadmap), where you can vote for it.

Chapters are written one at a time from each chapter's page; there is no button that writes the whole book in one go. Regenerating a chapter costs the same as writing it the first time. Re-importing an outline creates a new, separate book and charges the import again, so to redo a book, regenerate its chapters in order inside the existing book.

Check the "Additional Instructions To AI" box for that chapter on the writing screen. It is sent to the AI together with Target Words and is saved per chapter, so an old line like "use approximately 2000 words" competes with a higher Target Words value. Delete the word count from the box or make it match Target Words, then generate again.

The Book Editor (/app/tool/book-editor) does not change the book on your dashboard. Accepted edits go into the edited .docx you download from the tool. To format and export the edited version, create a new book, choose Import manuscript, upload that .docx, then use the Metadata, Format and Publish steps. The original book is left unchanged.

A generation can fail for two different reasons that look identical on screen, and they have opposite fixes. (1) A technical failure - the request did not complete. Retrying usually works, and blocked or failed attempts are not charged. (2) A content refusal - the AI model's own safety filter rejected the prompt before writing anything. This is not a plan limit, not a chapter-count limit, not a batch-size limit and not a connection problem, and retrying with fewer chapters will not change it, because nothing about the request reached the writing stage. The assistant must never guess between the two: if the user has retried several times with different settings and it still fails at the same step, treat it as a content refusal rather than repeating network or batch-size advice. A refusal is about what the book asks the model to write, most often in the imported manuscript, the book description or the character notes rather than in the chapter itself. The assistant states that the model refused the content and does not suggest rewordings, trims or workarounds that would get the same material past the filter. One case does cost credits: when a model writes its refusal as the chapter body instead of erroring, the chapter is generated and charged like any other. Point that out if the user sees a chapter whose text is the model apologising, and pass it to support rather than telling the user to regenerate.

Yes. The explicit content setting on the paid plans raises how frank the writing can be between adult characters. It does not switch the rules off. Our Terms of Service, section 8 (Acceptable Use), prohibit using the Service to produce content depicting the exploitation of minors, to generate illegal, defamatory, threatening or harassing content, or to infringe someone else's intellectual property. Every character written into a sexual scene must be an adult, whatever their age is stated as elsewhere in the book, and no setting anywhere in the product changes that. The AI models we use enforce their own version of the same rule, which is why a book of this kind fails at the outline or chapter step no matter which model is selected. The assistant states the rule plainly and stops there: it does not explain what the filter reacted to, does not suggest changing an age, a wording or a description to get the material through, and does not treat the refusal as a bug to work around. Section 8 also allows us to suspend or terminate an account for violations without prior notice or refund, so anything in this area goes to a human rather than being settled in chat.

To put a new draft into a book you already created: open the book, then change the end of the address in your browser to /import (for example aiwritebook.com/app/book/12345/import). There is no Import tab in the book's step bar. On the "Import already completed" screen click "Start over and delete this import", confirm with "Delete and start over", then choose "Yes, I have a draft" and upload the new .docx. Starting over deletes the chapters, sections, outline, characters and images from the old import, including any edits you made inside AIWriteBook, so download a DOCX from the Format step first if you want a copy. The book itself, its title, cover and Format unlock stay, and re-importing into the same book is free.

Prices are in US dollars and checkout charges in USD. Your bank converts the amount to your local currency at its own rate, and some banks add a foreign-transaction fee. Where VAT or sales tax applies, for example 20% VAT in the UK, it is added on top of the listed price at checkout.
