AIWriteBook vs Copy.ai: one book chapter, two tools

Copy.ai calls itself the first AI-native go-to-market platform: workflows, agents and chat for sales and marketing teams. Its Chat plan gives five people unlimited words with models from OpenAI, Anthropic and Google. So can it write your book? Instead of listing features, we took one real book task and walked it through both tools.

Two desks side by side: one with a long chat thread and a pile of loose pages, the other with an organized book project, character cards and a finished hardcover

The test: write chapter 12

Chapter 12 is where long books get hard. The opening is behind you, the ending is far away, and a dozen small facts from earlier chapters must still be true. If you have not planned that far yet, our free outline generator gets you a chapter list in a minute.

The task

Chapter 12 of a 20-chapter mystery, about 2,000 words. Detective Ana Ruiz confronts the victim's sister, who has worn a cast since chapter 3, and learns the alibi was a lie.

In Copy.ai Chat

  1. Open a chat project and paste the premise, the cast and a summary of chapters 1 to 11.
  2. Ask for chapter 12 with the brief above, and choose a model.
  3. Read it against your notes: the cast, the sister's alibi, who knows what by now.
  4. Ask for revisions in the thread, then copy the final text into your manuscript document.
ResultA good chapter, as accurate as the summary you pasted

In AIWriteBook

  1. Open the book. Chapter 12 already has its own plan in the outline you approved.
  2. Press Generate. The outline, characters, Story Bible and your writing style sample go in automatically.
  3. Ask the chapter AI chat for changes, such as a quieter confrontation, and accept or reject each edit.
  4. The chapter is saved in the manuscript, between chapters 11 and 13.
ResultChapter 12 in place, written from the whole book's plan

Both tools can write a good chapter. The difference is who carries the book: in a chat, you do, by keeping the summary current for twenty chapters. In a book tool, the project does. That gap grows with every chapter, which is why we wrote can ChatGPT write a book about the same problem in general-purpose chat.

Moving a book out of Copy.ai

Chapters you already wrote in a chat project are not wasted. Bring them along.

  1. Collect the chapters

Copy each finished chapter from your chat project into one document, in order, with chapter headings.

  2. Import the draft

Upload it as .docx, up to 200,000 words. Characters and notes are extracted for free, and an outline is built from the chapters.

  3. Set your voice

Paste a few pages you like as the writing style sample. New chapters follow it, so the book does not change tone halfway.

  4. Write what is left

Generate the remaining chapters from the outline, then polish with the Book Editor before you format.

Where Copy.ai is better

We would rather you pick the right tool than the wrong one.

  • Team use: five seats on the $29 Chat plan, and up to 200 seats on workflow plans.
  • Sales and marketing automation with workflows and agents, plus 2,000+ integrations.
  • One place to try models from OpenAI, Anthropic and Google side by side in chat.
  • Company knowledge and Brand Voice for consistent marketing copy across a team.

Who should stay

If your work is pipeline, campaigns and outbound, Copy.ai fits it and AIWriteBook does not try to. If a book is the project, write it in AIWriteBook, then let a marketing tool help with the launch. Many authors start with our free blurb generator for the store description.

Cost per finished book

A 20-chapter book of about 40,000 words, ready for Amazon KDP. For AIWriteBook we priced the Claude model, our most expensive chapter option.

Copy.ai for books: common questions

Can Copy.ai write a book?

Its chat can draft chapters, and the Chat plan has unlimited words. Planning the book, keeping twenty chapters consistent, the cover and the print and ebook files are not part of the product, so those stay with you.

Is AIWriteBook a good Copy.ai alternative for authors?

Yes, when the goal is a finished book. AIWriteBook holds the outline, characters and Story Bible for you and ends with a cover, print PDF and EPUB. For sales and marketing automation, Copy.ai is the better fit.

Which AI models does AIWriteBook use?

You pick Gemini, Claude or Grok for each chapter. On plans with BYOK you can connect your own OpenRouter key and choose from 100+ models.

Can my co-author and I share Copy.ai's five seats for a book?

You can share the chat, but each of you still pastes context by hand. In AIWriteBook the book itself holds the context, so whoever opens it writes from the same outline and cast.

Can I publish an AIWriteBook book on Amazon KDP?

Yes. The Format step builds files sized for KDP, and you own what you write. KDP asks you to disclose AI-generated content when you publish.
